Bs have big win over bottom side

The B grade made it two from three at the start of 09 with a very impressive win over Sturt.

Sturt batted first making 3/134 off 20.  Tahlia McGrath took the key wicket of Sturt Captain Eloise Sheridan (100 in last game) in the 4th over to stem the scoring rate.  We bowled very cleverly – keeping the faster scoring batter off strike as much as we could. We held Sturt to only 16 boundaries in 20 overs in the dry – fast scoring conditions.

Jess O'Reilly (1/21) bowled well with only three runs conceded in her second spell of two overs and Jade Ambler bowled very accurately for 0/18 (one boundary) off four.

Jess O'Reilly produced the innings of the season with a breathtaking 87 not out  off 38 balls (16 fours).  She scored off 29 of the 38 balls she received.  Team statistics including 50 off 21 balls, 100 off 50 balls and the 135 off 11 overs indicated the power of the batting performance.

Rachael Greenshields   (69 run partnership) and Tahlia McGrath (42) gave very good support.

For Rachael it was her third big opening partnership for the season 92 with Tahlia McGrath (C grade v Prospect), 123 with Shari Bray (B grade v Kensington) and the 69 against Sturt.

A sporting highlight of our innings was the dismissal of Tahlia McGrath.  A straight driven shot from Jess O'Reilly rebounded from the bowler on to the stumps.  Tahlia (at the bowlers end) was out of her ground – but the umpire was unsighted and could not give a decision.  Umpire McGrath's decision – OUT!  so she walked off. well done

B grade women put up brave effort against top team.

The Bs put up a very brave effort over top team Port on Saturday.

We welcomed back captain Jess O'Reilly after state duties in Canberra with the Under 17 team last week.  She opened with Rachael Greenshields – they put on 17 for the first wicket (12 overs), but we could not develop any momentum on the slow running Eric Sutton Ground.  Shari Bray continued her good form with 30 (58) and good late hitting from Jade Ambler (7no) and Courtney Brideson (7no) saw us 6/87 after 40 overs.

We bowled well with Port scoring the runs in the 31st over.  We fielded very well with Jasmin Thompson (two run outs), Rachael Greenshields, Courtney Brideson (one catch each) and Cara Allen all performing well.

We had the first ALL MCGRATH dismissal with Kayla taking a catch off sister Tahlia late in the game.

Jasmin Thompson returned to form with five economical overs for nine runs.

Thanks to Cara Allen who filled in at late notice.

This weekend C grade resumes with 35 over games for the rest of the season and the Bs having the last of the minor round T20 games against East Torrens.

B grade women start 2009 with a win

The Bs had at 48 run win over Kensington in the T 20 comp to start 2009.

We started without state reps Jess O'Reilly and Dayna Cox (in Canberra) and Kylie Rattray (illness) but C graders Rachael Greenshields (PB with the bat and a wicket), Courtney Brideson (first B grade wicket) and Kayla McGrath (well done as wicket keeper) had good games.

Stand in captain Shari Bray lost the toss and we were put in. Shari and Rachael scored well (five overs 37, 10 overs 63, 15 overs 121) to create a new first wicket stand for the Bs of 123.  Shari scored 48 (47 balls) and Rachael a PB of 40 no (59 balls).  We finished with a season's second best score of 151.  (Previous best 155 off forty overs against East Torrens.)

We bowled well with four very good medium pacers (Jade, Jas , Karin and Tahlia) all bowling accurately.

Courtney and Rachael chimed in with wickets in the final overs of the first two sets of five to have Kensy's 2/34 after 10.  Jade took a wicket in the 11th to make it 3/34 and despite a 69 run partnership we always looked safe.

A warm welcome to Karin Prince -  who made her Southern debut – scoring 9 (9 balls), taking a catch and bowling economically with 0/9 off four with two maiden.
