Double win in Round four

Both Indoor teams had very good wins in Round four of the Indoor season.  The seniors broke through for their first win with a convincing 51 run win over Skippers and the juniors had a 49 run win over Flapjacks.
The seniors batted first making 122 (we did not lose a wicket until the 11th over!!!)  Johnny and Brandi made 24, Donna and Cara 35, Liam and Josh 33 and Thomas and Rachael 30.
We bowled well holding them to partnerships of 28, 14, 17 and 12.
The Juniors bowled first for the first time for the season holding Flapjacks to 60.  Hannah and Kelly bowled well at the start taking four wickets and making sure their first pair only scored 4.  Their next three pairs made 30, 16 and 14 with Eben taking two wickets in this first over.
We passed their score in the ninth over and batted well to finish with 109.  Hannah and Kelly made 21, Eben and Ethan 32 (their best partnership for the season), Nikki and Liam 25 and Emily and James 31.  Welcome to Liam who played his first game for  the season.
Next week the Juniors have their first bye for the season and the Seniors play at 5pm as usual.

Jess O’Reilly wins Award – Both indoor teams go down. Good news from State selectors

Jess O'Reilly won the annual "Young female cricketer of the Year – Encouragement Award for 2010-11" from the Cricket Lovers Society.  She was presented with this award recently.  Tahlia McGrath won this award last year.  Jess was honoured with the privilege of thanking the Society on behalf of all recipients.  Other winners included Megan Schutt from Sturt.
Indoor news last week saw both teams lose – but some encouraging performances. The Senior Team had regular Thomas Scott back on board – but could only manage 53 in their quest of 136.  Rachael and Cara put on a team high partnership of 31 with Rachael scoring 23 (including a seven.)
The juniors were about 20 runs short of par with 101.  Jessie and James continued their good form with 42 and Armstrong twins made 21. Our bowling and fielding were not quite what they were last week and they passed us with the last pair still to bat.
STATE NEWS
In SAPSASA cricket Kayla McGrath and  Hannah and Kelly Armstrong have all made the next cut for this team.  This 18 player squad will continue to train until the final squad is announced later in the year.
In Indoor news
Jess, Kylie and Courtney have made the state Indoor team (Open) – with Courtney added to this team last week.  Cara, Rachael and Brittney Miller are in the Under 18 team with the three senior players from Southern.  This gives us 6 of the 10 players in this team.

At Southern we recognise the assistance of the Be Active Program set up by the Government of SA over the last three years for their generous assitance with our Girls Cricket Program.

INDOOR ROUND TWO – JESS AND KYLIE CHOSEN IN STATE SENIOR TEAM. JUNIORS WIN AGAIN!!!

The Junior Stingrays team won their second game for the season with a  convincing 111 – 49  win over Fighting Sharks.  We batted first with James and Jessie making 39 (including one 7), Emily and Nicky made 29,, Eben and Ethen 5 and Hannah and Kelly took us over the 100 with 38.  We bowled and fielded well with Hannah taking a wicket with her first ball (three wickets in all), Eben taking four wickets and Ethan two. Emily captained well and took three catches.
The "senior" scored a competitive 91 batting first, but our opponents The Sharks passed us in the third pair and ran out 20 run winners.
State and travel news:
Kylie Rattray and Jess O'Reilly have been chosen from the Under 18 team to represent the State Indoor team in Sydney.  As well as Jess and Kylie, Courtney Brideson, Cara Allen and Rachael Greenshields have been chosen in the Under 18 side.  Former Stingray (and sometime player) Brittney Miller has also been chosen in this team.
We wish Nuggett and Marg Jude well with their travels during July and August.  They will be in England watching some of the Australian Women's games against New Zealand and England.

Its winter so it must me Indoor

This year we have TWO indoor sides and in keeping with our policy of the last four seasons they are a mixture of boys and girls.
Our Under 12s Southern Stingrays (3520)is Emily Armstrong (captain), Hannah and Kelly Armstrong, Nicky Moyle, Jesse McCarthy, James Scott, Eben Rensburg, Ethan Nicholls-Preston and our reserve Liam Moyle.
Our "Senior" team is Donna Clark (capt), Cara Allen, Brandi Ongley, Rachael Greenshields, Liam Coleman, Jonnie Arnold-Janz, Josh Worthey, Cameron Smith, Thomas Scott and Aiden Zamitt.
The "senior" side had a bye in the first round – but had a good hit out with players getting to know each other.  For our "veteran" players Donna, Cara, Brandi and Rachael it is their fifth year of being involved in this team.
The "junior" side had a good win in their first game.  We batted first making competitive 95.  The twins Hannah and Kelly made 20, Emily and Nicky  21, Jessie and James 33 and Eithan and Eben 21.
Lil rippers replied with 89.  They scored 24, 10, 33 and 22.  In a very tight last two overs they needed 19 off the last 12 balls, 11 off the last over and three off the last ball to win.  We scored a run out off the last ball to secure the six run win.
Well done to all – every member of this team was playing their first game.
Thanks to Tania Scott who assisted with the organisation.
