Bs continue good form - As take it up to last year’s premiers - Congrats to Josh - State news

The B grade continued their impressive 2012 form with a 42 run win over last year’s B grade premiers East Torrens.  Once again led well by Marg Hay 50no we made a competitive 6/107 off our 40 overs.  At Christies High this was worth 50 or so more as the outfield runs very slowly.  (There were no fours hit by EITHER TEAM.)  Nuggett continued her good form making 14 and there were good contributions from Courtney 9, Kelly Armstong 9 and Kayla Stazuk 8.  Kelly and Marg put on 41 in 17 overs in the middle of the innings to make sure we batted our overs.

We bowled and fielded tightly holding them to 19 runs of their first ten overs  (two wickets), 42 off their first 20 (for six wickets) and eventually dismissing them for 65 off 31 overs.  Brandi took the figures with 2/12 off five and Kelly Armstrong bowled her leggies well for 1/6 off eight overs.

The As started well having last year’s premiers 4/48 in the 10th over – but a 61 run 5th wicket stand between McDonald and Tucker held us up and a further 31 between Schutt and McDonald set them up for 200.  Dayna cleaned up the tail taking 3/40.

The highlight was the opening spell of C grader Hannah Armstrong who took 3/34 including state squad members Bartlett and Casey Galbraith and Under 18 state captain Price.

Tahlia McGrath also bowled well late in the innings to take 1/11 off six overs.

Our batting was dominated by Kylie Rattray who continued her state form with 31 off 32 balls.  She tempered her customary aggression with some solid defence.  Jess O’Reilly played her best innings in A grade this season with 36 not out.  Georgia Weatherspoon batted 51 minutes for a well constructed 25.

We threatened at 5/117 with 22 overs to go but were bowled out for 160.

State news

Kylie made an 11 and 18 in her final two state games and Tahlia made 56 and  26 in her last two state games in Ballarat.  The team finished fifth.

Congratulations

Well done to Josh Golding (who assists us on Fridays) who made the State Bank Under 16 team of the year.

This week

The As venture down to Port and the Bs and Cs are at the Playing Fields. All games are on Sunday and IT IS FEBLUARY ROUND.

Bs first win in 40 over comp – As go down – Donna called up for state duties – State news

The Bs had their first on ground win (after their forfeit last week) on Sunday with a comprehensive 108 run win over Port.

Port batted first making their way to 1/53 in the 14th – but wickets to first gamer Nicole Baker set the collapse in motion to have them all out for 95 in the 31st over.

Marg Hay and Nuggett gave us the perfect start with 56 off nine overs and Kayla Staszuk and Nuggett took us within touch at 2/88 in the 13th.  We passed their score in the 15th over and batted the rest of our overs to a very impressive 8/203.  Kayla Staszuk made her PB for Southern (against her former side) with a solid 41.  Nuggett finished with 21 on her return from knee surgery, Robyn 17 (retired) and Emily Armstrong bettered her PB with 14 and Joy enjoyed her innings of 13 no against her former side.

First gamer Nicole Baker impressed with her bowling taking 2/6 off three and Brandi  and Robyn took two wickets a-piece.

The Bs have now made it three in a row (with a win in the last game of the T2o before Christmas, last week’s forfeit and this win over Port.

The As were not so lucky.  We dismissed Kensis for 160 with the spinners Chelsea Dahlenberg 2/24 and Kamani Gilligan 2/8 doing the damage late in the innings (combined with two great run outs from Dayna we took the last five Kensington wickets for 29 runs.)   We had them 4/75 in the 18th over – but a 60 run fifth wicket stand took the game away from us.

The As batting was led by Cara Allen who batted very patiently to top score with 18.  First gamer Georgia Weatherspoon batted well for 13, Dayna made 13 and Kamani made 10.

Thanks to regular C graders Hannah and Kelly Armstrong who came of successful SAPSASA campaigns to play their 3rd and 2nd games in the As.  Hannah took a wicket, a catch and impressed with her defensive technique against State squad members Sarah Jameson and Sarah Lowe.

A big thanks to C grade coach Marg Jude who made her A grade debut – taking a catch.  It has been over 30 years since Marg played her last A grade game!!!!

Donna call up

Donna Clark received the call up for the Under 18s in Ballarat and made the journey to Melbourne on Saturday morning for the last three games this week.  She will be back in time for flag duties at the Test Match on Friday.  The Armstrong girls will also be involved in the cricket lunch time activities on Wednesday.

Welcome

GEORGIA WEATHERSPOON

Georgia joins us from KI and is good mates with Kayla McGrath and Tabatha Saville.  All the girls played in the Under 15 state team earlier in the season.

State news

It was great to see Kylie Rattray scored PBs in the state Under 18s championships in Ballarat.  Her 37 against the ACT was followed by 51 against WA.  Her chances against Tasmania were thwarted by Tahlia McGrath and her fellow opener who made 0/150 in setting (batting first) in a T20.

News on the job front for our players.

Good luck to Shari Bray (Quorn) and Chelsea Dahlenberg (Naracoorte) who received confirmation of their jobs recently.  We hope to see you playing cricket either for us soon.

THANKS FOR THE QUIZ NIGHT

Thanks to the group who worked on the organisation of the Quiz night – special thanks to the Lyons family, Nancy Allen, Marg Hay and (in spirit) Sharon Rattray.  The evening saw over 70 people on the evening from various parts of the club and plenty of new faces.

This week both sides play South with the As at Bice and the Bs at Christies on Sunday.

The As start at 11.50 and the Bs at 1pm.

As stretch West Torrens – Bs win over Kensys – State news

The As made one of the top teams West Torrens battle for their three wicket win on Saturday.

Tahlia McGrath (34) and Rachael Greenshields (26) gave us the perfect start with 72 in 19 overs (this was their second partnership of over 50 against the Eagles this season). They played the quicks well – but off-spinner Harding troubled the top order taking 5/18.  We finished with 142 with Shari (9) and Marg Hay (8) batting us into the 49th over.

They scored at five an over for the first six overs – but a wicket to Tahlia McGrath had them 1/31. State players Moritz (18) and Ebsary (45) took the score to 73.  We got back into the game with a very good spell of bowling from Dayna Cox and Brittney Miller.  They took 4/13 in a six overs to have them 6/117.  Kamani took a wicket with her first ball to give us a further chance at 7/130 – but they scored the required runs with three wickets to spare.

Dayna bowled her best spell for the season taking 2/21 off eight and Tahlia was complimented by umpires and opponents for her two spells which saw her take 2/24 off seven.

Welcomes – to Jasmine Nadebaum (a friend of Jess’s from school) who played her first game over the weekend.
Welcome back to Kylie who played with “jet lag” having just come home from Germany.

The Bs received a forfeit from Kensington to start the 40/40 competition with a win.

State news

The SAPSASA girls finished third having lost their last two games to powerhouse teams Queensland and NSW.

Hannah made 23 against NSW, Kelly took a wicket against Queensland and Kayla got two stumpings against Queensland.

We wish Tahlia McGrath and Kylie Rattray well with their efforts in Ballarat in the Under 18 starting Tuesday.

Don’t forget the Quiz night on Saturday night (Jan 21) – 7.30 start at Bice.

This week the As play Kensington at Bice (11.50 start) and the Bs play Port at EP Nazar (1pm start). The Cs resume Feb 5.

Tahlia McGrath played three games in the Bank SA Under 16 competition during the week.  She took 2/7 off six overs in her third game and impressed her coaches with her accurate bowling and good fielding.  She played with Tom Cotter-Gillies, Thomas Scott and Josh Golding who have worked will our players as coaches (Active After School) and with our Indoor teams over the last 12 months.

A’s go down in the mud! Good news on state front

The As played Northern / Tea Tree Gully in the only game of Women’s Cricket played on January 8.  After the storms the previous evening it did not look likely we would play – but Helen Black pitch was surprisingly playable.

We batted first on the “sticky” wicket.  The medium pacers made the ball seam a little and stop slightly on the pitch.  We made 57 with 15  from Dayna being top score and 10 from Brandi (at No 11) being second.  Jess and Tahlia batted very solidly in the worst of the conditions.

They batted and passed us in the 9th over and went on to declare 64 in front.  Brittney and Cara took two wickets apiece.

When we batted again Jess and Tahlia saw us through to stumps when Jess lost her wicket.

Many thanks to our latest recruit Tabatha Saville who made 9 and fielded exceptionally well  ( complimented by the Umps) who joined us from Alice Springs.  Tabatha played with Kayla McGrath in the recent Under 15 state competition and hopes to play a few more games with us soon.

In state news the SAPSASA girls have won their first two games of the current competition in Baruga (NSW).  Kayla McGrath top scored with 50no (PB) in the successful run chase against the Vics.  She was well supported by Hannah Armstrong who made 17.  In the win over the Invitation side Kelly Armstrong made 10.

Tahlia McGrath made 2 and had 0/10 off two overs in her first game (T20) for the Under 16 boys team in the Bank SA competition.

She heads off to Ballarat next week.

Many thanks to Marg Jude who was our hostess at her Alpaca farm at Currency Creek last Saturday.

Don’t forget the Quiz night coming up on the 21st January.  Get your tables together.  If you have prizes to donate big or small see Nancy Allen.
Thanks to everyone donating their time and energy on Tuesday at the Big Bash and Wednesday at Bice Oval for the Under 19 state game we are hosting.
