Tahlia finishes equal top SACA wickets

The highlight of our last game of the  season was the individual clashes between Steph Morrison and Hannah Perry (TTG Northern) and Ashley Eyles* (West Torrens) for the top  SACA wicket taker in A grade.

Our game was reduced to 25 overs due to overnight rain.  We battled our way to 49  on the slow, slightly damp wicket, with Tahlia making 16 and Kylie 15 (including one six.) We defended well against Hannah Perry (wicketless in five overs), but state opener Steph Morrison took two wickets to take her to 15.
Tahlia bowled well in her first two overs and had a catch dropped in her third as Northern crept towards our total.  The first ball off her fourth over saw Brittany Perry edge the ball to keeper Kayla to give Tahlia the wicket and her 16th for the season.  We saw another very tough chance dropped in her last over.
Donna Clark took an early wicket and Tahlia followed up with hers, but they passed us two down and batted into the 22nd over.
*News came through that Ashley Eyles did not get a wicket in her game against Kensington.

Thanks to Donna, Chloe, Brandi, Kylie and Jess who worked with us at Reynella with the IN2 Cricket and Girls Supa 6 Smash over the last six weeks.
The success of this program is due to the efforts of the coaches and the support of parents. The highlight of the last session included games featuring parents and participants.

If you can make it to the Junior Boys Presentation BBQ Friday evening it would be greatly appreciated.  6pm at Bice.

Tahlia takes four – one off SACA leader

The second game followed a similar pattern to Saturdays.
We won the toss, batted and were in early trouble at 2/25.  Tahlia had made 22 of those having seen off the opening spell of state bowlers Megan Schutt and Stacey Oates.
Dayna (22) and Kayla McGrath (39) took the score to 69 and Kylie Rattray (20) took it to 3/112 in the 32nd over. We lost our remaining wickets for 23.
Kayla McGrath followed up her hard fought 95 minute knock on Saturday with a 101 minute innings on Sunday.
We took three early wickets to have Sturt 3/79, but they steadied through Megan Schutt amd Alex Price. They passed us four down.
Tahlia took her best figures for the season (4/15) to take her to 15 wickets (one off the leader in the SACA A grade wicket takers with one game to go.)

We welcomed Bridee Tonkin to Southern for her first game.  Bridee comes to us via Langhorne Creek and the Gary Putland trials.  She has been playing boy’s cricket and her brother plays in our Under 14s.

Tayla and Kayla highlights first of double header

Tayla Smith had two PBs in the first of the double header games against Torrens.
She achieved a PB of 6 ( batting for 43 balls) against one of the top bowling attacks in the competition.
She also took two wickets.
However, the best of all was the run out of state captain Lauren Ebsary. Lauren “took her on” at mid on and Tayla ran her out with a direct hit.
Kayla (26) batted very patiently and showed excellent defensive technique against a very accurate Eagles attack.
We batted well into the 45th over with some stout resistance from our lower order.  Kayla (
70  balls) Tayla( 42)  Cara  (34) and Donna (12) kept them in the field for four overs short of their allocated 50.

When they batted our bowlers had them 4/57 and had a glimmer of hope but a 91 run stand put the game out of our reach.

FINALLY SOME CRICKET - RACHAEL TAKES A MICHELLE

After weeks of heat, washouts and sprinkler disasters we finally had a game!!

FIVE FOR PFIEFFER - HENCE
"MICHELLE!!!

Chasing 199 we fell agonizingly five runs short of our first 50 over win for the season.
The highlight of our bowling performance was a PB from wily off-spinner Rachael Greenshields.  Using a variety of well flighted deliveries and a Bice Oval track which was a bit slow at the Southern end she finished with a PB of 5/38 off 10 overs. Her wickets included state player Alicia Dean, state squad members Sam Betts and Amanda Wellington and state Under 18 squad member Sarah Thamm.
We had them 7/149 in the 36th over but the next 10 overs produced a match winning 39 runs for the eighth wicket.
Tahlia McGrath continued her good form with 3/26 and top scored with 59.
We started well with Rachael (8) and Tahlia McGrath put on 52 in 18 overs.  Tahlia and Jess (47) took the score to 106 off 28 overs, Kylie (37) and Jess took the score to 179 with six overs to go.
But we could not score the required runs.

This weekend we have a double header of games at Helen Black (with the catch up game against Sturt on Sunday.) Let’s hope the sprinklers have not been left on this week!!!!!
