T Mac Rolton Medalist

The Women’s season finished on a high.  Tahlia McGrath won the Karen Rolton Medal for the Best and Fairest player in the SACA A grade competition.

TMac had a fantastic season finishing top of the batting with 590 runs and third in the bowling with 14 wickets.  She scored three centuries during the season and took a PB of 5/19.

OUR NEW RECORD

Rachael Greenshields and T Mac (148) created a new ALL WICKET stand for our Women’s teams of 203 against Port in Febluary – this equaled the men’s opening wicket stand

Donna wins Cricket Australia, SACA Volunteers Award and co-winner of Ian Bone Medal.

Recently we were sent news of Cricket Australia and SACA recognition of Donna Clark’s work during the season.

She won the state wide Junior Cricket Volunteer of the Year.

This was in addition to her award from SACA earlier in the season.

Donna Clark won the SACA volunteers regional award for the Southern Metro area.

 Part of Donna's entry included:
 “She is a coach, a volunteer, a member of committees, role model and embraces Cricket Australia’s vision to be Australia’s favourite sport.  She is always keen to pass on her enthusiasm for the game to the next generation of cricketers.....

She willing offers her coaching expertise working with female players in the 10-15 age group.  This gives her an opportunity to get to know the new players and in turn gives them a role model.”

SAPSASA  

In the week before Easter the first girl’s inter-zone SAPSASA championships were held.  There were eight teams North East Metro, Western Metro, Eastern Metro, North East Country, North West Country, Central Country, Southern Country and Southern Metro.  This meant over 90 girls from Years 5-7 were involved in games.

Kempey and Jerry Blair (from Strath) coached the team. We had six girls who had played B grade last season in the team and we introduced five others to cricket during the week.

We used the week to give everyone in our squad the chance to show their skills.  All batters, if not dismissed, were retired after four overs and were given two overs an innings.

Congratulations to Ella Wilson, Chelsea Kennedy, Kaitlyn Heath, Gypsy Schirmer and Bree Madder who were chosen the trial for the SAPSASA team in late April.

Award winners

Congratulations to Glen Ongley who won our Women’s Volunteer of the Year.  Glen balances the A grade scoring, transporting Brandi (As) and Serena (Bs), assisting with training and his own games at Noarlunga in a very busy cricket season.

Glen also received SACA recognition for 25 years’ service to the game.

Third in the SACA BOWLING (50 over comp). 14 WICKETS.

Her 5 for against Northern sealed the Rolton Medal.

Fielding Anna always gave 100% in the field.  This was presented to Anna after her last game.

Rachel played some very good innings this year. Three scores of over 10 with a top score of 21.

Bowling

Bridee Tonkin

Bridee was given lots of chances to bowl – compared with the boy’s grade at Strath.

11 wickets with a best of 3/11.

Fielding

Ella Wilson – Ella was great – either as a keeper or in the field.

Coach’s Trophy Chelsea Kennedy

Chelsea attended almost all trainings.  She is keen to learn and her innings with Bridee against West Torrens almost stole us the game.

A grade Rachael Greenshields – Rachael was part of the 203 partnership achieved PBs with bat and ball and is Donna’s assistant on Thursday evenings with our youngsters.

B grade Ella Wilson

Ella inspired us all with her A grade debut at the age of 11 in Febluary.  She fielded very well in the Bs, bowled and kept well.  Her batting has shown great improvement as the season progressed.  She occupied the crease and was always keen to play shots against any opposition.

I Q (Ideal Qualities) Alecia Holt – Since joining the club Alecia has given us 100% on and off the field.  She assists with the Milo In2 cricket Saturday mornings and was involved in the fundraising and Febluary game.  She has bowled some excellent spells this year and is a great thinker about the game.

COACHES REPORT (Barry McGrath)

 We were delighted the B grade were back this year.  This gives our players a pathway to play A grade.  Thanks to Marg and Kate for their work with this group.

Congrats to all of the award winners in particular T Mac for her win in the Rolton medal.

Our three wins post-Christmas were most encouraging, we were in positions to win all of the six games.  The loss to eventual premiers Northern / TTG really cost us in the end.

Congratulations also to the club’s only Under Age State rep Kayla McGrath who played Under 18s.

Thanks to the committee for all their work this year.

 Barry

State news:

 The Scorpions made their first grand final for seven years. They went down to NSW who win their 10^th title in a row.

Tahlia McGrath continued to consolidate her position in the senior state team.   She scored 120 runs for the season with a top score of 32 and took 10 wickets with a best performance of 2/32.

Sarah Taylor became our third state rep. She scored 313 runs with a top score of 58.  As a keeper she took three catches and five stumpings including four in one game.

 Sarah won the McCauley Medal for the best SA player during the season.

 She followed this with Player of the Series award in the England v New Zealand games held in February / March.

Reynella Oval Coaching

This season we continued our very successful program in conjunction with Reynella Cricket Club.  We ran IN2 Cricket and a Girls Only Competition (Supa 6 Smash) and had two girls’ teams in the Kanga Competition.  We had over 30 girls participating across these three programs. From the feedback we have from SACA this is the currently the most successful junior girls program in the metropolitan area.  The retention of players over the last two seasons has been impressive. One of the reasons for this is the commitment and enthusiasm of our coaches.  They are very good with their drills with the young players and provide significant role models.  It has given our players the chance to develop and improve their coaching and leadership skills.

A big thank you to Trish and Geoffrey Pinder for their untiring efforts to make sure this venture runs so smoothly.

We have had Brandi Ongley, Donna Clark, Kylie Rattray, Rachael Dickinson, Alicia Holt, Anna Kerrison, and Jess O’Reilly as our regular coaches with guest appearances from Tammy Beaumont, Sarah Taylor and Tahlia McGrath.

New players:

 We welcomed Tammy Beaumont the Club for the last three games of the season.  She is the second member of the Darren Lehmann Academy to join our club. Tammy reeled off a 121 no in our win over Sturt.  Tammy also assisted with presentations and coaching at Reynella Oval.

NEW PLAYERS

We are delighted that Gypsy Schirmer. Kaytlin Heath, Billie Manuel, Sanjette Singh, Zoe Reynolds and Caitlin Seccofien played their first games in the Bs for The Stingrays.

Please keep an eye out for potential players in the off season.   This season we had 15 players debut with the teams – the best we have ever had.

In the off season

Indoor  

Good luck to all players involved in Indoor comps over the winter. 

  Gary Putland Academy:

For the second consecutive year we were involved in the Gary Putland Academy Trials.  This will give our new players the opportunity to improve their skills during winter and our coaches a chance to work closely with players in their development. Players will be invited to sessions in August at Morphett Vale Indoor Cricket Centre.

Coaching

In fourth term 2015 we will be assisting with the Reynella IN2 Cricket Centre, Girls Only and Kanga Cricket Competitions from Saturday October 17.

This runs six weeks about 8.45 to 10.15.

FUNDRAISING

During Febluary we were part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Games evening.  Thanks to Donna, Rachel B Mac and the organising group for a great night.

Many thanks to our loyal group of volunteers, who managed teams, scored, transported, assisted with BBQs, Presentation Evenings and members of the Women’s Cricket Committee.
