A couple of A grade results and a 12 year old debut!!!

Congratulations to Katelyn Heath who made her A grade debut over the weekend.  Katelyn has been in good form this season with good runs in the SAPSASA games held in late November.

(We wish her well in the National Primary Schools games to be held in Canberra in early January.)
Best wishes also to Ella Wilson who will play in the Under 15 Championships in mid-January.

The As made a creditable 186 against Kensis in their only Saturday game for the season.
Alecia and Rachael gave us a good start with 22 off the first five, but the loss of three wickets in four overs put us 4/31 in the 9th.
A 97 run fifth wicket stand between Kylie (74) and Kayla (21) took us to 4/128 in the 26th over.
Kylie made her Highest Score for the season with 10 fours and 4 sixes off 77 balls. It was one run off her PB of 75 made in 2012.

Divya scored a very valuable 20 (all boundaries) at Number 7.
Alecia continued her good work this week taking another 4 fa.  She took wickets in her 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th overs to put the pressure on the Browns and have them 5/105 in the 18th over. But a 70 run 7th wicket stand took them to the win in the 31st over.
All games were played at Park 25 this weekend and ours was the last to finish with Sturt bowled out for 25 and West Torrens for 122.
Last week we made 142 against Northern.  Jess score 34 (her top score for the season), Kylie 22 and Rachael 20.
Alecia took four wickets as we had them under pressure in the 24th over at 6/119, but the former state reps Neesha Iles and Bec Pollard scored most of the 36 runs they needed to win in the 29th over.

Thanks to the organisers of Secret Santa last Friday and the hard work put in on Saturday night with the club get together.

Don’t forget the WBBL games at Glenelg December 26 and 27 which will see at least three and possibly FOUR SOUTHERN reps (Tammy, Charlotte, T Mac and Tabby).
There is also a game on the TV New Year’s Eve and a stand-alone game at Adelaide Oval January 2. (Elise Perry will be involved in this game!!!)

The Strikers WBBL team had a win over the weekend with T Mac taking two wickets in her first two overs to place pressure on the Thunder batters in the fifth and seventh overs of the innings. She also scored 10 no to see the Strikers home in the 17th over.

Games resume
The Bs resume with 40 over games for the remainder of the season. We play at Park 25 on January 8.
The As have a T20 game on Wednesday January 11 at Park 25 with a 5.20 start.

A very Christmas to everyone and all the best for 2017.

Xmas break no wins

With the Christmas break coming up neither team has a win this week.
The As went down in tight one by three wickets and the Bs travelled from one side of the metro area to the other to be dismissed for 19 and 15.
Highlights included Amelia Knight taking her first wicket and Hannah Watchmann making five after changing a flat tyre between games!!!!
Divya made 10 and took a wicket in her senior men’s debut. She was part of a 29 run partnership with captain Steve Miller who carried his bat for 123 no…. well done Steve.

One win one loss for WBBL Strikers with a 14 wicket win on Saturday and a seven wicket loss on Sunday (with three balls to spare)
Charlotte Edwards    1 in game one    31 off 28 in Game 2
T Mac              11 and 0/19 in game one        and          16 off 9 including a six in game two (this was off the last ball of the innings!)
Tammy Beaumont     2 game one and    20 off 23 in game two.

Don’t forget practice at five this week and a BBQ Xmas tea after training…. Bring a Secret Santa gift.

THE DREAM TEAM….

Southern with FIVE INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS
There is not to often we have FIVE international players in Stingray colours…..
CHARLOTTE EDWARDS…. TAMMY BEAUMONT (England) …. TAHLIA MCGRATH (Australia)….. DIVYA RAWAT SAXENA (Canada)…. and KYLIE RATTRAY (Australia INDOOR)…  all international players …..and TABBY SAVILLE  (Strikers squad)…. What a Dream team!  It’s a pity we were washed out!!!!]

Tammy Beaumont was Player of the Series England v Pakistan in June 2016 with scores of 70, 104 and 168. She was only the third English player to score 150 in an ODI.
Tammy is preparing for the WBBL and played with us two seasons ago.
And Charlotte Edwards

And our own TMac who tells me she had a great time last week in Coffs Harbour representing Australia for the first time.  She said she batted against two very good leggies who were bowling to well set fields…..Her aim was “to score a run a ball in the last three overs….”
To our B graders…. Does this sound familiar???
We wish all our Strikers reps well in their forthcoming games…. They play their first games in Adelaide at Glenelg starting Boxing Day.
Our involvement in Milo In2 Cricket finished last Saturday morning. We still have the most unique set up with THREE PROGRAMS running at Reynella Oval (Milo, Kanga and our Girls Only program.)

Thanks to our coaches headed by Donna Clark and including Kempey, Josh Waldhuter, Alicia Holt, Rachel Dicko, Cara Allen, Brandi Ongley and Erin Temme.
The Bs played six overs before conditions became to treacherous and the rain set in.

This week the Bs have two games at Park 25 to complete their first half of the season and the As have a 50 over game against…. at a venue to be decided (this was to be a country round.)

A Couple of wins Brandi does a Tanner and Ella's first A grade wicket

B Grade captain Brandi Ongley produced a captains innings with a Captain’s finish to give the Bs their first win for the season.
Batting second in quest of 118 (16 overs) Brandi hit a six off the second last ball to give us a win.  (Last year A grade captain Sean Tanner hit six to give us our first A grade premiership!!!)

In sweltering conditions the they made 2/118 with Brandi taking the only wickets in her first and last spell.
We started well with 50 up in the seventh over.  Divya provided a quick came innings with 18 at just better than a run a ball. But in the closing overs Brandi took control of the game.  In that time she hit her first six, passed her previous PB (44), scored her first 50 and controlled the scoring securing most of the 15 runs needed off the last over.
Amelia Knight gave us a perfect platform to launch with good running. Salamoe (playing her first game for the season) scored a single off the 3rd last ball to get Brandi back on strike for the last two balls.
Brandi’s second six for the innings gave us the win!
In the first game  the Prospect openers batted into the 17th over to see them finish 2/142.  Eesher took our two wickets. Divya scored her first 50 on Aussie soil to see us dismissed for 88.
The A’s won their first game with a convincing eight wicket win over West Torrens
Our bowling was highlighted by Ella Wilson who took her first A grade wicket.
The best of the figures was Jess 2/8 with Charlotte, T Mac and Tabby also taking two each.
Tabby 39 and K Mac put on 57  for the second wicket and T Mac and K Mac finished the  job with a 59 run unbroken stand to finish the game in the 28th over.
T Mac also scored 81 and took a wicket in the state game at Woodville on Saturday.  Charlotte scored her second Scorpions ton in the SA win over WA.
No practice or games this weekend with the test match on
We also have no Wedneday games in the Strikers League.
Reminder Charlotte is speaking at Cricket Lovers Wednesday evening… contact Kempey  if you would like to go…
