No A or B grade games due to rain.  The Bs were called at 11am Sunday!

Jess’s D grade game Saturday was also rained off.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Stingrays Cup evening… Serena had a great night booting home three winners out of six!!!!

T Mac played for the PM’s X1 against South Africa at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney.  She opened the bowling taking a wicket in her first spell ( caught by Amanda Wellington) and took a further wicket in the middle overs.

Pacing her innings in quest of 203 at just over four and over she lay the foundation with 30 off 46 balls and was involved in a 58 run second wicket stand with captain Beth Mooney. The PM’s X1 won with 11 balls to spare.

This was the second time T Mac has been selected in this team with last year’s game being washed out.

COACHING

Our involvement in the Reynella Oval Milo In2 Cricket and Girls Only programs continues.

We are coaching many of our B graders with the Strikers Cup competition Wednesday evenings at Woodcroft College.

We also wish these girls all the best with their SAPSASA commitments November 21-24.  Kylie, Kempey and Donna will be working with this team.

Charlotte Edwards will be speaking at Cricket Lovers (East Barton Terrace) on Wednesday  23^rd November.  If you are keen to go to this event please contact Kempey.  Jess, T Mac and Marg Jude have also spoken to this group over the last five years.

NEXT WEEK

This week the As play West Torrens at the High School ( the A grade men have a Saturday  / Sunday game at Bice)  and the Bs have a double header at the Playing Fields starting at 11am before we have a weekend off for the Test Match.

ONGLEY’S RULE!!!!

The Ongley team put on a 27 run partnership as they batted together in the Bs for the first time!!!!

Brandi had a big day out with a PB of 42 and bowling very well 3/22 off eight overs.

Serena batted for over 25 balls again (second game in a row) for six.

We started well against West Torrens taking 4/3 in the sixth over.  Cara swung the ball late taking one wicket and troubling the West Torrens skipper and ex-Australian player Caroline Ward. Brandi took two three wickets in her opening spell to have them 5/37 in the 18^th.

An 86 run stand for the sixth wicket took them to 7/130 in the 36^th over and some late hitting saw them 8/148.

Our aim was to bat the overs and spend some time in the middle early in the season. Brandi and Divya gave us an very good platform taking us to 1/48 in the 11^th over. (Divya is our latest recruit from the Darren Lehmann Academy).  She batted with good aggression and ran well.

A 15 run sixth wicket stand between Brandi and Rachel Dicko gave us a sniff of an unlikely win as we were able to get the runs / over to less than  four.

But the introduction of Jolanda Winson slowed the run rate and wickets fell. We finished 15 runs short.

The A Grade was a similar story where we fell 36 runs short in our quest for 158.

We had Kensis 1/19 in the fifth, 2/27 in the sixth and 3/73 in the 12^th, but a 85 run stand between state squad members Doecke and Pope took the game out of our reach.

T Mac was  the most economic with 14 off her four overs with 16 dots out of 25 balls.

Tabby Saville maintained her good form with 49 off 32. T Mac scored 27 off 23 (including one 6!!) to see us within 73 with eight overs to go. But spinner Shae Daly took the wickets of Tabby and T Mac within five runs to put the pressure on.

This week:

The Bs go back to T 20 format with two games at Park 23 and the As  playing Port at home in a 50 over game.

THIS WEEK’S ROUND UP….. ELLA’S HEROICS

In the Under 14 Whites Ella Wilson scored the winning runs as the boys chased down 136 with three balls to spare!!!!! She also took a wicket.

 She was when she came in we needed five to win putting on the six runs needed with batting partner Dane Moore.

Welcome to  Divya Rawat Saxena who joined the Stingrays this week….This time last week she was living in Canada!!!! Divya joins us as part of the Darren Lehmann Academy.  She joins an elite group including Anna Kerrison and Tammy Beaumont (2014/15) and Kathryn Bryce (last season). She was involved in the Strikers Cup Have a Go last Wednesday working with Charlotte Edwards.

And while on Charlotte pencil in Wednesday November 23 (the eve of the Test Match) for a Q and A with Charlotte as part of the Cricket Lovers (SA) in North Adelaide.  It would be great to have Southern players at this event….The interviewer will be Kempey!!!

Our girls continue to draw praise in the Men’s 4^th Grade.  Men’s A grade captain Sean Tanner passed on the  message from the Prospect 4^th Grade captain who was very impressed with Jess, Alicia and Tabby in their recent game.  3 players out of 11 is not bad…. But watch out for more in coming weeks.

Caitlin  Seccafein took another THREE wickets in for her school side in the local boys Primary School competition (keep it up GOLDEN ARM!!!!)

STATE NEWS

The SA Scorpions beat Victoria on Friday (always good to beat the Vics) with TMac taking  1/21 off six overs and  making 35. Charlotte scored  15.

On Sunday we went down to the ACT by 33 runs/

T Mac making 15 and Charlotte one. T Mac took 0/15 in her first spell.

GAME NEWS

The Bs had the bye.

The As played in as one umpire described “the worst conditions I have experienced in over 200 games!”

In game one Tabby gave us a great start with 34 off 31.  She showed great “game sense” taking on the field and some powerful drives and sweeps.

Jess (coming off a pair yesterday for the FOURTHS) made 12 and K Mac 13 no.  Alecia played a nice cameo at the end for a run a ball 9.

89 was well under par as it proved with Port scoring the runs in the 15^th.

The second game saw us bat first again Tabby (13) and Jess (28) were the mainstays of the batting. But 74 (all out) was not enough as they passed us in the 16^th.

On the day Tabby was outstanding in the field and Jess showed her excellent leaderships skills with determined games with bat and ball.

The Stingrays welcome Charlotte Edwards to the team for the 2016/17 season.

Charlotte will play games for us in between her Scorpions and Strikers commitments. It was great to see Charlotte at training last Friday and she will be at the Come and Try Strikers Cup on Wednesday at Port Noarlunga Oval.

Charlotte retired as England captain at the end of the 2016 World T20.

During her 20-year international career, including 10 years as England captain, Edwards won numerous individual awards, with few bettered by her being only the second-ever female recipient of the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2014. ..(she) also won the 2015 ECB Women’s Cricketer of the Year, 2012 ICC Women’s World T20 Player of the Series and the 2008 ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. She has been nominated for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year four times and is a seven-time top scorer in the UK Women’s County Championship.

As a leader, Edwards led England to the 2009 ICC Women’s World T20 and 2009 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup titles, as well as four Women’s Ashes triumphs, including the 2005 victory which ended 20 years of Australian domination.

We have had the pleasure of hosting Sarah Taylor, Tammy Beaumont, Anna Kerrison and Kathryn Brice over recent seasons.

Ella Wilson

Congrats to Ella who took 3/25 off 11 overs for the Under 14 Whites.  She opened the bowling at the start of the West Torrens innings last week taking a wicket in her first spell.  This week she took two wickets in her opening spell to see the 14 Whites win by three runs (defending 79!!!).

The As scrambled to 116 – having been 4/5.  Charlotte Edwards topscored with 30, Jess O’Reilly made good runs at Number 8 (26 no) and Kayla McGrath started the season well with 23.

Four ducks…..

Charlotte opened her career at Southern with a six off a waist high full toss from Stacey Oates.

We had the Blues 2/23 in the fifth over, but they passed us 2 for in the 20^th over.

The Bs.

The Bs won their first game for the season with a forfeit from Port.

The second game saw us up against Kensington Brown.

Batting first they made 6/119 in their 20 overs.

Caitlyn Seccafien took a career best 3/18 off her four overs and Ella Wilson backed up her three wicket Under 14 effort with 2/13.

Our batting suffered a similar fate to the As with the loss of early wickets. At one stage we were 3/5. Sundus Rasa (7) and Serena Ongley (11) put on 12 for the fourth wicket to take us past the A grade’s 4/5!!!

Serena feasted on the Kensi bowlers again (after a PB of 13 last year) for 11 off 23. She and first gamer Amelia Knight put on 21 in seven overs for the best partnership of the innings.

Amelia batted 42 minutes and faced 23 balls in her innings.  She ran well between the wickets and defended the stumps well to remain not out.

Erin Temme batted 19 balls and showed good defence when she was given out LBW.

The return of left armer Cummings (an NT rep) finished the innings. We were all out for 41.

Congrats to our first games Hannah Watchman, Sundus Rasa and Amelia Knight and Erin in her first game as B grade captain.

This week

1. Milo IN2 Cricket Come and Try Day at Reynella Oval from 9 am. (Many of our players will be involved in this)

2. Our new Strikers League for girls 8-15 starts with a Come and Try Day at Port Noarlunga Oval from 4.30pm…. after that we will be at Woodcroft College Oval.

3. No B grade next week…. We have a bye.

4. The As have a T20 double header at Park 25 No 2.

The first round.... rain... still!!!!

Round one games were called off due to the weather.

A big thank you to the cooks and organisers  at today’s BBQ.

On the state scene the SA Scorpions had a one wicket loss to NSW and a tie with Queensland.

We beat Tasmania.

Our reps TMac top scored in the game against NSW with….. and was top wicket taker with   3/…..

The late wickets took us within a whisker of a win.

TMac was also our top wicket taker against Queensland.  But it was our international recruit Charlotte Edwards who won player of the match with 100.

In the third game T Mac batted Number 3 making 31 and Charlotte top scored with 59. TMac finished with two wickets in the win over Tassy.

We had three players involved in games on Saturday.

Tabby Saville and Jess O’Reilly made their senior debuts in the Men’s Fourth Grade.  They were part of a win! (this side won two games last year.)

Tabby was second top score with 28 (four 4s), batting with her usual aggression (putting on 55 for the fourth wicket).  She opened the bowling, bowling off spin into the strong wind taking 2/37 off 10 overs (and took a catch), Jess bowled five overs into the breeze for 0/10 and took at catch.

Ella Wilson made her debut in the Under 14 whites, opening the bowling and taking 1/10 off four overs.

This week we the As play Sturt at Price Memorial with state and international reps available.

The Bs have a double header with both games at Adelaide University Number 2.

The big news this week was T Mac’s selection in Australian colours. She ventures to Sri Lanka with The Shooting starts in late March.

Tahlia celebrated her  Australian selection with 57 against The Eagles.

West Torrens batted first making 215. 

The highlight was a tight bowling spell from our offie Alecia Holt.  Her first seven overs went for seven runs with the wickets of Johnson and Walker in  three balls.

Figures 7 overs 3 maidens 2 wickets for 7…..

Five scoring shots in 42 balls!

We welcomed back Tabatha Saville – who is now studying at Adelaide Uni and is expected to be a regular over the next few seasons – she took 2/35 and made 10.

The Eagles  were 3/92 in  the 17^th but three 20+ partnerships saw them bat into the 47^th over.

We lost three early wickets to be 3/17 in the 10^th and could not get a big partnership to threaten the score.

The Bs played the second of the Northern teams at Park 25 (niiice!!!!)…. We batted first scoring 94.  We built our innings around Kylie’s 58 off 43 balls ( 7 fours, two 6s)… Rachel Dicko scored 11, Tayla 9 and Kerry equaled her top score for the season.  Eesher, Jess and Serena were part of a hat trick.

We took three early wickets 3/26 – but they took the game away from us after tea – scoring 9/177 off their 40 overs.

Jess Monistach took two wickets in one over to finish with the figures of 3/31.

Ella kept well and took two spectacular catches.

We welcomed Olivia and Alice Lockhart to the Bs for their first games.  They are part of our involvement in the Under 15 competition at Park 25 Wednesday evening.  Jess O’Reilly is organising this group and we wish them well over the next two weeks.

The As play Northern at Bice and the Bs have top team West Torrens at Christies High next Sunday.

The end of year get together is being organised for the weekend of march 11 and 12.  Keep posted for more details.

Bs only..... Jess saves outright for the second week in a row….. Erin’s first….

The Bs had the only cricket for the weekend.

We came up against top two contender Prospect (on the back of an outright win over Kensington Brown last week.)

This week they chose to bat first and try to dismiss us twice.  They made an impressive 227.  Ella was in the game as a keeper with two run outs and a catch and Caitlin Seccafein took two wickets.

We lost early wickets – at one stage we were 6/33 in the 13^th (similar to last week.) Batters 8-11 and Ella kept Prospect in the field until the magic time of 5.50pm.

Ella batted with patience and very good defence for 55 minutes (44 balls), Kaitlyn Heath continued her good form with nine off 15 and Erin 15 minutes (10 balls) to hold up Prospect’s quest.

But it was our “dead bat” specialists who kept the game going until stumps.

Jess and Caitlyn batted from 5.21 to 5.51.  Jess once again showed her patience batting 50 minutes (44 balls) making the bowlers come to her.  It took their best bowler former state junior Mel Smith to get her out – after she had seen off six bowling changes.

Thanks to Alecia who filled in for us – with two players phoning in ill.

Congratulations

Throughout the season we congratulate state reps and excellent performances.  This time we congratulate one of our junior players who has achieved a unique distinction.

Erin Temme became the first coach in our Reynella Oval Clinics  to be part of the program and now take on coaching responsibilities. For the last three years Erin has been part of the Reynella East Primary Kanga Cricket team. On Saturday she debuted as a coach – working with Year 1 and 2 students running the “Shot Gun” game.  Erin has shown leadership potential last year with her selection last year as Captain of Reynella East Primary.

We also welcome Kathryn Bryce and Caitlin Seccafien who debuted as coaches this weekend.
