The season ended as it started…. New B grade record!

There goes the season…. and as was typical of the summer that dreaded four letter word ……
RAIN….
Both games were affected with the As called at noon.
The Bs started and were very competitive posting 9/148 of our full 40 overs.
Sundas played the innings of the season with 54.  A PB after her score of 11 last week (she wishes the season would go on for a few more weeks!)
She hit five 4s and faced the top bowler in B grade Leanna Murray (24 wickets and the SACA top wicket taker for the second year in a row) with great ease.
Alecia Holt (on loan from the As and a 75 minute drive!) made her PB of 68. The partnership of 53 took us into the 15th.  Brandi and Alecia put on 18 for the 7th wicket to into the 34th over and the tail took us into the 40th.
We batted their overs  and had two players score over 50 for the first time….According to my records and My Cricket (which goes back to 2010-11) this is the first time TWO SOUTHERN players scored 50s in a B grade game.
(We did have three in T20 against East Torrens in A grade.)
The rain which had been on and off during  out innings opened up in the 4th over of the Adelaide innings.  The umps called the game at 4.30pm.
Other B grade games did not get a start.
Thanks to all volunteers for their assistance this season.
We have get-together Wednesday evening at a venue to be confirmed and our Presentation evening with the junior boys March 31.

We wish the Under 16 boys all the best with their finals campaigns.

SOUTHERN GIRLS SACA STRIKERS CUP PREMIERS

A big congrats to our girls involved in the SACA Under Strikers Cup who won the title on Saturday.
Led by Amy Peterson we won the first game on Saturday by a run. In the GF we needed eight off the last over and courtesy of two fours from Amy we won with a ball to spare. Thanks to Sam Betts who coached the team.  This comp gave many of our B graders extra match practice after so many games have been called off this season.
Olivia Lockhart made a PB (4) to partner Cara Allen in a 50 run eighth wicket stand to see us fall nine runs short in the Bs.
Kensis made 89 with Brandi continuing her good form with three wickets and Stella Lockhart taking her PB with 2/18.
We took five catches and earned two run outs (that’s four ros in two games!!!) in the field. Sam Dowling took two really hard ones in usual nonchalant fashion!!!
Cara scored a PB of 36 no to almost see us home.
The As copped a rampant West Torrens (who we played in a T20 on Tuesday.!!!)  This time Brooke Harris scored a 100no to make 3/238. This was always going to be a big ask. We made 73 with Tabby topscoring with 24.
Congrats to Erin Temme who was presented with her A grade “baggy red.”
Don’t forget functions on March 15 and 31.
We have the As at home on Sunday and the Bs at Port.

Bs get lucky and play!!!!!

The B grade rescheduled game on Saturday went ahead…. But the A grade game Sunday did not….It would have been the 9th game the Bs had missed for the season!!! (We had the bye on Sunday)
The Bs battled really well against top side Northern Blue. (They bowled us out for 19 in the T20s)   and showed the improvement we have been seeing over recent weeks.
We made 80 with Rachael topscoring with 24, Brandi scored 22 and Sam made 15 (with three 4s) late in the innings. The Rachael / Brandi partnership was 38.
We took wickets at regular intervals to have them 4/47 in the 13th over.  But they kept a couple of A graders to bat late in the order to see them pass us in the 25th over. Olivia Lockhart with her new modified bowling action took her first wicket  and Erin and Amelia took their first catches for the season.
Our fielding was very good with three catches and two run outs.
The As were washed out at Bice with overnight and early morning rain.  We saved Northern the trip to have the game called off when they arrived!

In the  Under 14s Ella made 3 no and took a wicket.
We have seven girls and two coaches involved in the SACA Under 15 games Saturday mornings.
Our involvement in the Strikers League start again this Friday with most games at Woodcroft College. Donna and Kylie will be coaching and most of our younger B grade team members are playing.

We had our second Milo In2Cricket session at Reynella Oval Saturday morning with Erin, Donna, Kempey, Cara, Rachel Dicko, Alecia and Josh part of the coaching panel.

On Tuesday the As have the last of their T20 games Tuesday evening at Park 25.  They play West Torrens again Sunday at Henley…. The Bs have Kensi Brown at Bice.

Don’t forget to set March 31st aside as we have our presentation evening for trophies.

FOR A CHANGE A GAME OF CRICKET!!! Bs win two in a row Divya Michelle and Hatty

FOR A CHANGE A GAME OF CRICKET!!!
Bs win two in a row
Divya Michelle and Hatty

The Bs won their second game in a row (our last game was three weeks ago!!)  with a nine wicket win over Glenelg.
Sending them in we had them in early trouble taking 4/10 inside the first five overs.  Divya’s hat trick in her third over made it look like an early finish.  But former Stingray Kate Weger (A grade cap Number 3!) held us up taking the game into the 22nd over.  They batted well into the 34th with Div taking the last two to end up with a PB of 5/5 off 4.4 overs.
Stella and Alice both took their first B grade wickets and Alice took the catch to dismiss Kate Weger.
Special mention to Hannah Watchmann who took her first catch as keeper and ON DIVYA’S HAT TRICK BALL!!!
We lost Hannah at nine in the run chase, but Rachael Greenshields (24no) and Divya (34no)  put on 64* to see us winners in the 16th over.
Febluary Medal Divya.
The A grade saw the debut of Eesha Degvan.
We batted first making 136 off 49.1 overs.

T Mac and Jess put on 26 in the first eight overs to give us a solid start. But we lost 3/12 in 10 overs as Emma Sampson and Amanda Wellington put the squeeze on our batters. Kayla continued her good form of recent games with 44 and Alicia made 9.
We kept Port in the field until the 38th over with T Mac taking two wickets in three balls  (and a further wicket eight balls later). We had them 5/109 in the 29th but did not take another wicket with state rep Amanda Wellington making 87 no.
This week the As have a mid weeker at Park 25 (after last weeks was heated off). The Bs play Saturday in a catch up game (for the one when the pitch was not prepared) and the As have a Sunday game against

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

Once again the Bs did not get a start…. This time it was rain.
The As did get a start with a 28 over game arranged at Bice….. But the heavens opened after 12 overs to see the  game called at just after  4pm.
(Thanks to Bowie and the ground staff who covered the pitch and then made every effort to get a start.)
Our good luck charm Amy Peterson played her first A grade game….  and once again Southern DID NOT LOSE!!! (That’s three!)
Off the field thanks to Donna, Rach, B Mac and Bowie for their efforts with the Pink Night.  Over 100 people again for this important fundraiser.
Erin Temme missed out on a game again with her total days missed now up to 70!!! (Last game December 4 2016!)
The As play at Park 25 Wednesday evening (5.20pm) in the last of their T20s.
The Bs are scheduled to play at Bice on Sunday ( times may change due to weather …)

Our Milo in2 Cricket starts this Saturday at Reynella with an eight week program.

T Mac Master class

Tahlia McGrath put on a masterclass of batting to give the As their first win of 2017.

Port batted first in the hot conditions making 104.
Their openers Sampson and Wellington put on 48 but we took wickets at regular intervals to keep them to a below par score.  Cara took two wickets with Jess bowling very economically taking 1/6 off four overs (including 19 dot balls!!!)

We paced our response well with Jess and T Mac giving us a great start (56) off nine overs. Kayla chipped in with a valuable 9 and saw us through the overs from state bowlers Sampson, Perry and Wellington.

T Mac batted 54 balls for her 74 which included eight 4s (Port only hit four boundaries for their complete innings.  She hit the bad balls to the boundary, but also dictated terms to all of the Port bowlers with excellent footwork.

She batted for 54 balls and hit eight 4s (the Port batters only hit four in their complete innings.)
The Bs were called again… this time for heat! This makes seven games which have been affected by rain, heat or lack of pitch prep this season!!!!!!  This week (elements willing) we venture to Kensington.

Thanks to Amy Peterson who sub fielded (her second ever senior game) taking a catch.

Don’t forget the Pink Night this Saturday evening and end of game presos for Juniors and Seniors.

Bs win, Alicia PB, Amy “Michelle” on debut Kylie gives As a chance

The Bs had their second win for the season over Northern Blue.
In hot conditions at The Paddocks we held the Northerners to 98 off 40 overs. Our last 14 overs were very good as we took 7/19.
At the second drinks break they were 1/79 (27 overs) but accurate bowling from first gamer Amy Peterson and tight bowling from Alicia and Cara held them to under a 100.
Amy comes to us from our Strikers League competition and had a very good SAPSASA week being our second top run scorer.

Alicia took the first two wickets and Amy had a hand in the next SIX (with a run out as well!)
When we batted Alicia anchored the innings with a PB of 55 no. (She had a big day….
1. On the field for the 68 overs of the game
2. Her 8 overs cost 5 runs with two wickets
3. Her previous PB was 46.
She and Amelia put on 10 for the first wicket.
Cara (retired ill 7) took us to 46 at the first drinks break.
It was the partnership between Alicia and Olivia Lockhart which took the game out of Northern’s reach. Olivia batted with great maturity and determination for 26 minutes, being part of a 27 run partnership which took us to within 22 runs of the win. She ran well and was very careful with the balls she played and let go.
Jess and Alicia put on 23 (unbroken) to take us to the win the 28th over.
The As were in early trouble being 4/20, but Kylie produced on her “special” innings. She made 72 off 38 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes taking us into the final over.
Sturt scored the runs in the 15th over.
This weekend sees the As at Bice for a T20 and the Bs venture to Prospect Oval.
Don’t forget our Pink evening / Quiz night on February 4.
