Bs breakthrough for first win - Cs drop a game - Donna stars for Under 16s boys team!

The Bs had their first win for the season with a thrilling two wicket win over second placed West Torrens.

The Eagles batted first making 70 of their 20 overs.  Dayna Cox (on loan from the As) took two early wickets – Brandi took two and Cara bowled very tightly to finish with 0/12 off four.  Our fielding was the best it has been all year with a run out and catch.

We started badly with three wickets falling in the first four overs (3/3).  But we recovered with a 24 run stand between Brandi (4) and Cara (22), 17 runs between Chloe (5) and Cara and 18 between Marg Hay (23 no) and Cara to have us 6/65 with last batter Erin Bogan in.  Erin faced the two balls of the over to give Marg the strike –Marg finished off the game in typical style with two boundaries to secure the win in the 17th over.

It was the Bs first win for the season.

By contrast the Cs lost their first game for the season. We batted first and looked well set at 0/41 after 10 overs.  Hannah Armstrong continued her good form with 17 (124 runs for the season @ 62!) and Nikki Moyle – opening the batting for the first time batted well into the 13th over for 24.

Emily Armstrong made her PB of 6no and Ella Johnson put on 17 for the 5th wicket to have us 75 after 20.

We had the Browns 5/47 in the tenth over – with wickets to Kelly Armstrong (2), Emily and Hannah one each at that stage and Zoe.  But a 34 run stand for the 6th wicket took the game away from us.

Thanks to Linda Shaw and Zoe’s sister Jenna who played their first games this week – which takes us to 39 player who have played for the club this season.

With the As being called off on Friday evening Donna Clark received the call up to the Under 16 Whites. (A team Kempey has coached in his time as a Boys Coach).  She made 12 (run out) and opening the bowling took 1/29 off 16 overs.  Well done.

State news

The Under 15 girls have beaten the Vics and NSW (but lost to Queensland) in the Championships currently being held in Sydney. Kayla McGrath made 11 against Queensland.

TAHLIA MCGRATH – OUR FIRST SCORPION!!!

Tahlia McGrath became Southern’s first Scorpion on Saturday 3rd December 2011. Tahlia, was chosen as 13th player for the senior state team on Friday and was called into the team on Saturday morning will the illness to a team mate.  She made 2, batted 17 balls and was out stumped “trying to force the pace.”  Luckily for us she was able not required Sunday in the second T20.  She celebrated with us with a well constructed 48 no where she “carried her bat” to be not out in the 19th over.

Tahlia has had success at Under 15 level (All Australian) and a score of over 50 at Under 18s level last year.

We made 90 – which was not enough with Northern getting the runs in the 16th. Kylie provided plenty of support with a brutal 31 (7 fours and one of these may have been a six!!!!)

The Bs (with five regular C graders) faced the daunting task of Adelaide Uni.

We batted our overs to make 52.  Nikki Moyle impressed again top scoring with 14 (3 fours) and put on a 21 run partnership with Kayla McGrath.  Emily Armstrong batted for 20 minutes to show her improved form with the bat this year and Amy White made 10 no told hold up the Uni attack.  Hannah Baker and Kayla Stazuk took the two wickets to fall.

The Cs had a scratch match with the Sturt girls.  This was a very good hit out for the girls who have recently joined the club.

We wish Jess and Rachael good luck with their School Volleyball commitments this week in Melbourne and Kayla McGrath with her Under 15 games this week in Sydney.

This week the As play East Torrens SATURDAY and the Bs and Cs play at GB on Sunday.
