As 10 runs short - Bs battle

In the clash of the last two T20 champions we lost to West Torrens by 10 runs.
We took early wickets (2/9) off two overs and had the state captain Lauren Ebsary out in the sixth over to have them 3/26.
Our overs 4-10 we held them well with Alicia Holt bowling four overs for 12 and Tahlia McGrath two overs for seven.
But Lucy Williams (44 no) took the score to a respectable 94.
We started well with Rachel and Tahlia setting a solid base with 21 off five overs.  The introduction of “chinaman”* bowler Tayla Gordon slowed the run rate and we could establish regular high scoring overs.
Donna batted very well for 32 no off 40 balls.  She and Tahlia put on 16 and she and Kylie put on 30.  At 2/67 in the 16th over we needed 28 off 24 balls but tight bowling from The Eagles thwarted our chase.
Chloe Lyons hit out well (seven off nine) in the last three overs – but seven an over was just too much.

The Bs had the “waterbag” trip to Salisbury.
The Bs were hit hard by illness and prior commitments .  It was great to see the debut games of Natasha Tillson (Kate’s neice) and Tammy Kennedy (Chelsea’s Mum) for their first games.
Northern Orange made 3/130 with Kate Weger taking two wickets.
Ella Wilson continued her good form with a wicket in her first over, batting over eight overs and taking a turn as keeper when Kate bowled.
We replied with 43.  Tayla Smith (opening again!) batted well into the 8th over to take the score to 31.  She and Ella batted to instructions to hold up the Northerners.
We finished with 43.

Highlights
·         Donna’s 32 no off 40 balls.
In two games this year Donna has made 44 runs - she has scored more runs in two games than the last three full seasons (37, 34, 30) and is six runs short of her best season 2010-11.
Her previous highest score was 20 no in C  Grade in 2008.
·         Alicia Holt’s spell in the As – four overs for 12 – with only seven balls scored from in 24.  This included good flight and tempting batters to come forward to her.
·         Mums and daughters:
Tammy Kennedy joined Chelsea as our fifth Mother / daughter combination….
She jointed Jess and Rachel O’Reilly; Cara and Nancy Allen; Linda, Kayla and Tahlia McGrath and Sharon has fielded with Kylie.  (Deb Holt tells me she had a few games with Alicia at that other club!)
The feedback from our coaching sessions at Reynella has been very positive from both coaches and players.
