(EDITED FROM THE SACA WEBSITE)
In the first match of the newly established Powerade Women's Twenty20 Cup, Southern District's Tayla Ferguson shared in a match winning performance against Northern Districts.
The Christies Beach High School student opened the batting at scored 27 runs from just 30 deliveries. She then retired to let her team mates bat. The Stingrays finished their allotted 20 overs at 1/112. In the field, Tayla bowled two overs and took 1/8.
This was Tayla's first senior women's match for Southern District. Two seasons ago she was involved in the Scorpion Shield, and played in the clubs Under 15 boy's indoor competition.
The Powerade Women's Twenty20 Cup has been established by combining the Powerade Youth Cup with the Women's C Grade. The competition is largely an Under 17 grade, with three players over the age permitted to assist with on field coaching and development of junior players.
As a result of their performances, Tayla has automatically been selected in the Powerade Junior Team of the Year and will be awarded a 'Powerade Junior Cricketer of the Round' pack at the Southern District Cricket Club over the next couple of weeks. She will also be invited to attend a function at the Adelaide Oval at the end of the season, acknowledging her, along with other nominees throughout the year, of their outstanding performances over the season.
