SACA AWARDS NIGHT

On Wednesday 31st March the Annual SACA Awards evening was held in the Gil Langley Room at the Adelaide Oval.

In the A grade fielding Southern's Dayna Cox was runner up to Port Adelaide's Amy Worswick.  Dayna has impressed Umpires with her vitality in the field and her accurate throwing.

Southern also finished in the top three in the Spirit of Cricket Awards across all grades of Women's Cricket.

As mentioned in a previous post Tahlia McGrath won the coveted Dot Laughton trophy for a player in her first or second year.  She joins Jess O'Reilly, Nikki Koritsa and Rachael Greenshields as recent winners of this award.

Great Awards night

We had a great Awards Evening on March 26.

Over 60 players, parents and guests enjoyed the presentation of A, B and C grade top batters, bowlers and fielders awards.

A big thank you to Genieveve Brideson who did all the organising and Jonathon who provide the slide show for the evening.

Our guest presenters included Southern Life Member Grae MacKinnon, Prospect Coach Robyne LeCournu and Umpire David Nickolls.

C grade Awards were won by Amy White / Cara Allen (batting) Tianna Muirhead (bowling) and Gail Ward (fielding and coach's award.)

B grade Awards were won by Courtney Brideson (batting), Kayla McGrath (bowling and fielding) and Cara Allen (Coach's Award.)

A grade Awards were won by Jess O'Reilly (batting), Tahlia McGrath (bowling) and Dayna Cox (fielding).  Donna Clark (bowling) and Kylie Rattray (batting) won the coach's awards.

The CRICKETER OF THE YEAR was Tahlia McGrath and the "drop kick" was won by Shari Bray.

Tahlia also won the SACA Dot Laughton trophy which is given to a player in her first or second year who has high skill level and been a positive influence around the club

Brandi in all three grades on the one day!

The highlight of the last round of matches was the performance of Brandi Ongley.  Brandi performed the "almost" impossible.  She FIELDED IN ALL THREE GRADES ON THE SAME DAY!

She started with the Cs at 12.15, found herself at herself at the Bs by 4pm –where she subfielded – then on to the A grade where she also subbed for the injured Shari Bray.

Jess O'Reilly finished the season with a second 50 in a row (60no) as we batted our fifty overs to make 140.  She was well supported by Dayna Cox (14) and Kylie Rattray (12).  They passed us in the 28th over.  Tahlia took 2/50 off her 10 and had a number of catches dropped.

The Bs started well with Renee Harrison (16)and Cara Allen (7) putting on 29 in the first six overs.  But we lost the rest of our wickets for 32 to finish with 61. It took East Torrens side 19 overs to get the runs.  Kayla again bowled well with 2/8 off seven overs and Jess Vincent took 2/6.

The Cs were set 151 by Port.  We batted our 20 overs with captain Amy White carrying her bat for 20 no.

B’s escape with draw.

The B grade girls "get out of jail" card earned them a draw against top side Port.

They won the toss and surprising batted (with the forecast of afternoon rain.)  They made  4/235 off 40 overs.  Brittany Miller took the figures with 2/36 off seven overs.  Cara bowled fellow SAPSASA rep Kayla Staszuk in her third over and Kayla McGrath bowled opener Alex for 62.   Jacinta did a great job behind the stumps for the first time.

We finished 3/11 when the heavens opened and stopped the game.

We welcome Renee Harrison to the club – she batted well in the wet conditions late in the game and fielded well.  Renee has a background in top level soccer and was more than willing to share her experiences with fellow cricket / soccer players Tahlia, Kayla and Cara.

The As made 145 in 34 of a rain reduced 36 overs.  Dayna produced her PB in A grade with 41 – being well supported by Tahlia (28 run partnership) and Jess O'Reilly (47 run partnership).  Marg Hay chimed in with 17 and Nuggett made 37 (including her first six.)

Northern scored the runs in 24 overs with Jess taking the two wickets to fall.

A big thank you to Gail and Kayla who subfielded for the As at short notice.

The Cs made 63 with Marg Jude making 14.  Gail Ward put on 14 runs with Marg being  the equal best partnership for the game.

The highlight was the 14 run (unbroken) stand between our two Mums Natalie Ongley (on debut) and Fiona Gore.

Kensington passed us in the ninth over – with wickets to the Gore twins and a stumping and a run out to Marg.

The last minor round game is next weekend with all games on Sunday.  There will be a get together BBQ at Bice after the A grade.  All welcome.

Don't forget the Cricket Dinner  at the Tonsley March 26.  Pay your deposit to Sharon or Genieveve.
