FEBLUARY UPDATE

Newsletter

With the last three game almost upon us both teams are poised for an assault on the finals.

As you read this the Cs will make the finals this season.  The outright win put us 30 points clear of 5th placed Tea Tree Gully and 6th placed Sturt.   (A fantastic effort for a team which did not win a game last season.)

The Bs play two teams below them in the last three games and Sturt (less than a game in front of them.)  Sturt have two of the four top teams in the next three weeks ( and us.)  I expect the last game of the season against Sturt to determine whether we will make it.

The Cs OUTRIGHT win was the first in this team's history.  Even in the barnstorming finish of 2006-7 we could never jag and outright and 24 big points!!!!

It was a great team effort with Nuggett (Nic Adams) again in great form with 35 (31 balls), a first senior wicket to Lauren Goldsmith and PB performances from Jess Vincent (4/3) and Kylie Dannenberg (4/10).  Jess also had a great day in the field with  three catches.

The Bs have won two out of three since the Xmas break – with a strong performance over Tea Tree Gully.

What an over!

The over of the season (as far as our batters are concerned) was a 25 run effort over Sturt.  We were in quest of 134 off 20 overs.

Openers Jess O'Reilly and Rachael Greenshields had started well with 21 off the first two overs …. But what occurred in the next over set up the game.

BALL ONE NO SCORE

BALL TWO WIDE (ONE OFF ONE)

BALL TWO WIDE (TWO OFF ONE)

BALL TWO FIVE WIDES (SEVEN OFF ONE)

BALL TWO ONE RUN OFF A WIDE (SCORE TWO) (NINE OFF ONE)

BALL TWO FOUR (13 OFF 2)

BALL THREE WIDE (14 OFF THREE)

BALL FOUR WIDE (15 OFF FOUR)

BALL FOUR   FOUR (19 OFF FOUR)

BALL FIVE WIDE (20 OFF FIVE)

BALL FIVE ONE RUN (21 OFF FIVE)

BALL SIX FOUR (25 OFF SIX BALLS)

Score at the end of over three 0/46

WELL DONE JESS AND RACHAEL

Jess went on to score a PB of 87 not out off 38 balls.

The Bs won the game in the 11th over – taking 66 balls to score the 135 for the win.

Our first B grade win of 2009 was on the back of a record first wicket stand between Shari Bray and Rachael Greenshields who put on 123.  Rachael scoring a PB of 40.

The Cs put up a brave effort over Port in game one with stand in Captain Emma Genockey scoring a PB of 22 in 70 minutes.

Milo Have a Go is on the way with Vinny, Jess Vincent, Nikki, Murf and Kempey running things!

Under 16 games for the girls   started   (Feb 8) and Under 13 games started (Feb 15).  Practices for both these teams are Friday evenings.

We are proposing to put a team (or two) in the local Indoor Competition for Under 15s in Terms 2 and 3 of the school year.  If you are keen to be involved (they will be mixed teams) please contact Kempey.

*** if you are interested in assisting with the management of this team please see Kempey.

ALMOST A TRIP TO BRISBANE

Jess O'Reilly and Linda Anderson were involved in the FORD BACKYARDCRICKET TOURNAMENT held recently at Glandore Oval. The girls had a great day with good runs and wickets in all games they played….

The girls were interviewed (as they played ) by former Geelong AFL player Billy Brownless.

The girls made the Grand Final – but lost …. Missing out on a trip to Brisbane for the National Backyard Cricket Tournament.

Tahlia McGrath is our second winner of the Powerade Cricketer of the week.  (After Lauren in Round one.)

The citation on the SACA website reads:

Meanwhile, the Powerade Youth Cup Competition (Under 16 girls) has returned after the school holiday break. Southern District's Tahlia McGrath made 30 runs in a 39 run partnership with her 10 year old sister and also took 1/6 from three overs. In addition to being awarded the FeBLUary medal for her efforts in the match, Tahlia was selected as the Youth Cup Powerade Player of the Round for Round 6.  Tahlia recently travelled to Brisbane to compete in the National Under 15 Championships; the thirteen year old recording a high score of 34* against Queensland, as well as collecting a couple of wickets.
