NUGGETT PLAYS A GEM OF AN INNINGS.

Nicole "Nuggett" Adams scored the first century in the history of the Southern District Women's Cricket Club.  For her efforts she earned a $500 diamond from John M Roberts (Master Jeweller) as part of the club sponsorship deal.

In the process the Bs won their first game for the season defeating top team Sturt - passing their score in the 26th over.

We bowled first and had them 6/34 in the 22nd over.  All bowlers were accurate. Wickets were shared in this early part of the game with economical opening spells from Cara Allen 1/3 (three overs) and Brandi Ongley 0/8 (three overs.)  Our second change bowlers Karmani Gilligan (0/14 off six) and Courtney Brideson 1/6 (off five) continued the good work.

Rachael Greenshields 2/9 off five and Jess Vincent 1 / 2 off five continued to exert pressure.  A 7th wicket partnership of 48 gave the Blues a reasonable score of 83.

We lost early wickets to be 3/16 – but steady partnerships of 18 (Rachael Greenshields and Nuggett) and 19 (Linda Anderson) took us within seven of victory.  Karmani Gilligan and Nuggett put the cream on the cake with 59 for the 8th wicket and Kayla Staszuk and Nuggett took the score to 162 at the finish.

Nuggett's innings was highlighted by 15 powerfully hit boundaries and 41 singles – many of which were hit within metres of the boundary on the heavy Christies Beach outfield.  It was made on the back of wicket keeping for 35 overs during Sturt's innings.

Highlights

  • Nuggett's 102 no is the highest individual score of any SDCC women's player – surpassing Jess O'Reilly 87 no v Sturt (2008/9)
  • It surpassed her previous PB of 64 no v Port last season in B grade
  • It is the first 100 scored in B grade by any player  this season
  • It was  B grade's first win for the season and was over B grade leader Sturt
  • 59 run partnership for the 7th wicket was a new B grade record for the club – with no other 7th wicket stand of over 25.
  • Nuggett batted for 36 overs – just over two hours

The Cs lost to C grade leaders Tea Tree Gully.  We had them in early trouble getting two early wickets (2/23 off 5).  However two "over 30" scores put them in the box seat with 3/101 in the 13. We held them well in the last seven conceding only 16 in the last seven overs.  Kayla Staszuk bowled tightly at the death with 3/9 off her four overs.  Hannah Armstrong bowled well taking two wickets and fielded superbly with three catches.

Amy White batted well at the top of the order and Tianna Muirhead and Marg Jude (red ink again – third no for the season from three innings) put on 32 for the last wicket.
