Kylie state debut - Both teams have wins

This weekend saw a very successful weekend for the Women’s teams.

The As made it four in a row in the T20 competition.

The Bs broke through for their first win.

Kylie Rattray earned her first state game on Sunday – making the second player to make the Scorpion team from Southern.

The As lost the toss and were sent in.  (We have now batted first in all five games this season.)

Rachael got us off to the perfect start with twos off the first two balls off state rep Keira Stockley, however when running off the 3rd ball for a leg bye she was given out lbw, as was Dayna next ball.

Marg Hay 22 off 39 and Jess O’Reilly 35 (37) stabilised the innings and later scored at better than a run a ball against their first and second change bowlers to take us to 2/70 in the 12th.

Kylie Rattray (fresh from her state debut) came out and blasted 40 off 26 with 5 fours and 2 sixes to take us to 125 at better than a run a ball.
We had them in early trouble with two wickets to Donna in her first two overs.  A further wicket to Dayna in her second over had them 3/7.

They rebuilt their innings through state players Cara Fiebig and Neesha Iles – but Jess took Neesha’s wicket  and we had them 4/39 at the end of 7th. The Fiebig sisters (who had troubled us in previous seasons) looked like they may take the game away from us as they put on 15 in three overs – but Dayna’s return to the crease saw the dismissal of Jess.  They were 5/56 in the 10th with one recognised batter remaining (needing 70 off 60 balls).  We were able to keep the pressure on with the last two wickets being run outs as they tried to score the runs.

The Bs win was equally creditable.
We fielded first and dismissed TTG – Northern for 60 in the 16th over.

Brandi bowled economically early to finish with 0/5, but it was Kayla McGrath bowling at the death who cleaned up the tail (2/10).  Captain Nicole Baker chimed in mid innings with 2/9.
Our reply was set up by Brandi (12) and Nuggett 30 no – who put on 37 for the first wicket in seven overs.

We thank TTG-Northern for allowing us to bat on after the official end of the game with Chloe, Emily, Kayla McGrath and Sam Walton all having valuable “in the middle practice” in match conditions.
Thanks to the Armstrong family who organised the all day BBQ extravaganza which included egg and bacon for breakfast for the SAPSASA practice before our games.

Kylie Rattray made her Scorpions debut on Sunday.

On Friday and Saturday  she had 13th person duties (50 over) but  was called into the side on Sunday for the T20 with the injury to Amanda Wellington.

She made 7 off 11 balls with one 4 and fielded for the last five overs of the ACT innings.

KELLY ARMSTRONG – HAT TRICK! Kylie completes with Stumping!

The As continued their winning form in the T20 comp to be top after three rounds.

We completely dominated East Torrens making 2/196 off 20 overs.  Tahlia  51,, Jess 61 and Kylie 54 no (26 balls) dominating with the bat.

We bowled them out for 64 in an innings highlighted by Kelly Armstrong’s hat trick. She bowled batter New with the last ball of her 3rd over and had batters N Smith and Guatta stumped with the first two balls of her fourth over. Kayla McGrath and Jess O’Reilly also took two wickets apiece.

Kylie’s stumpings take her to six for the season across the two competitions with four catches.

In the 50 over comp we lost to our nemesis team Sturt.

Batting first we got off to a solid start with Rachael (12) and Tahlia (27) seeing of the State opening bowlers Megan Schutt and Rhianna Peate. But it was the state off spinner Price who halted our momentum. Dayna continued her good form with 30 – being run out just as she was starting to launch.

We finished with 118 – batting our allotted overs.

We bowled and fielded well with Dayna and Donna dismissing their openers inside the first eight overs. We took a third wicket in the 10th over to have them 3/36 – but a 48 run 4th wicket partnership took the game out of our reach.  They passed us in the 28th over.

Kelly Armstrong bowled well taking two wickets and Kylie had her FOURTH stumping for the season (all off the faster bowlers).

The Bs lost to Sturt.

Sturt batted first making 4/106 at Christies High.  Emily Armstrong took the figures with 2/16.

Chasing we lost early wickets to be 4/22 in the 8th over.  Nugget (33 no) and Cara Allen (10) scored at four an over for the next 11 overs to take us to 66 in the 17th.

We finished 6/74 batting our 20 overs.

Nugget was the second B grader in two games to carry her bat ( after Brandi carried it for 25 no last week.)

This week we are against the undefeated TTG – Northern at 3.10 in he As and 12 noon for the Bs – both games at Gordon Brown.

As win two in a row – Donna wins international honours – T Mac gives SA a tie!!!

As win two in a row – Donna wins international honours – T Mac gives SA a tie!!!

The A grade have given us the best start to a season ever with another nail biting eight run win in Round 2 of the T20s.

Batting first Marg Hay got us off to a flyer with 24 off 19 to have us 2/47 in the 10th over.  Dayna played the sheet anchor role 38 off 62 and Kylie 28 off 35 put on an unbroken 68 run partnership to see us 2/115 after 20.  (one run more than last week!)

Donna Clark fresh from her South African success gave us the perfect start with two wickets in her first eight balls.  But they got away from us in the next eight overs to be 3/74 after 10 overs.  We played ourselves back into the game with in the next three overs taking three wickets to have them 6/93 in the 14th over.  Dayna Cox took the important wicket of opener Amy Wiseman 39 off 33 in the 16th over to almost seal the victory.  Kylie produced her third stumping in two games to finish the game.

The Bs were not so lucky going down by five runs in a run chase.

We made the perfect start taking  3 for 4 off the first five overs with two wickets to Kayla Staszuk and one to Brandi.  But newcomer Plumridge took the game into competitive territory and later out of our hands with 22 off 24 balls.  They made 5/74 off 20 overs.

We lost wickets early to be 3/22 in the 7th over.  Brandi and returnee Samantha Dowling 22 (24) took it to 3/62 (needing 13 off five overs) to have us within touch.  But we lost two wickets in the next three overs to just fall short.  Brandi carried her bat for 25 no off 49 balls.

This week the As have their first 50 over game v Sturt at Helen Black. (11.50 start)

The Bs will be at Christies for a T20 against Sturt (12 noon start)

Donna Clark’s trip to South Africa went well with the Australian Under 16 side winning the World Title and Donna making the International Team of the Tournament.

T Mac played her first full weekend of state cricket  - hitting two runs off the last ball of the Friday T20 to tie the game and take 2 for… and make 40 in the 50 over game Saturday.

Welcome to Stacey Walton for her first B grade game for us over the weekend.

And a warm re-welcome to Samantha Dowling who returns to us after four seasons with Kangarilla. Sam was an original Stingray playing with Jess, Dayna and Courtney in the first games of Under 13s Scorpions shield.

A's start with a win

The A grade opened the season with an 11 run win over last year’s Grand Finalist’s West Torrens.

Under newly appointed Captain Dayna Cox we won the toss and batted scoring 5/114 of our 20 overs.  Jess O’Reilly carried her bat for an unbeaten 52 no (62 balls) to play the sheet anchor role.

She was well supported by Kylie Rattray 19 (22 balls) and Georgia Weatherspoon (4) sharing in a 32 run stand and Marg Hay 7 (4 balls).  Marg and Jess took 22 of the last two overs to get us to 114.

We took the wickets of state reps Moritz and Oakenford in the first seven overs to have us in the game.

Tahlia bowled well for 1 for 4 off three overs to take the figures.   But it was Kylie Rattray in her new role as keeper who turned the game with two critical stumpings as she threw down the stumps standing back to medium pacers Cara Allen and Dayna Cox.

Cara Allen bowled a critical last over to seal the win.

Both umpires and opposition commented on our improved fielding.  (thanks to Glen!)

Next week we wish Tahlia well in her first full weekend on State duties in Brisbane with the Scorpions.

Games next week at Ford Oval Kensington are at 10 am (B grade) and 1.10 pm for the As. (Both games are on Sunday)
