Both teams came up short against last year’s finalists.
The As chased for the first time for the season.
We had English international Beth Morgan caught early – but a
137 run second wicket stand between Sheridan and Lowe saw Kensington 2/159 at
31 overs and set to make close to 300. We
fought back taking 3/10 in six overs either side of the 34 over drinks break
and slowed their scoring from overs 30-42 – but they fought back in the last
eight overs to make 235.
Tahlia McGrath bowled well in two spells to finish with 2/38
sister Kayla also bowled tightly in the mid part of the innings finishing with
2/24 in her six over spell.
Our innings started solidly with
48 off the first 13 overs. We scored 27
off overs 9, 10 and 11 to set up a charge but three quick wickets halted our
quest for quick runs. An 85 run
partnership between Marg Hay (51) and Dayna Cox (29) saw us 3/139 in the 38th
over needing 95 off 12 overs (at just over eight an over.) Kylie provided some fireworks in overs 41 (13
runs) and over 43 (15 runs) to have us 5/178 (needing 60 off the last seven) and
give us just a sniff of victory. But the
loss of quick wickets saw us dismissed off the last ball 33 runs short.
The Bs came up against the powerful Adelaide Uni. They made 2/159 off 20 with wickets to Cara
and Nuggett.
We started well with 17 off the first four overs but lost
wickets steadily to be 7/29 in the 1oth over.
But an enterprising and entertaining last wicket stand of 32 saw us bat
to the end of 19th over. Cara
Allen batted well for 29 not out.
The highlight of the match was a 26 minute (21 balls)
innings of 5 from 9 year old first gamer Ebony Fletcher. She batted courageously and was give great encouragement
from team mates.
The umpires complimented both
sides on their Spirit of the game in this partnership.
Happy birthday to all the Novemberites - and there are many
of us. I won’t name them all as I usually
leave someone out!
