Jess, Tahlia and Courtney complete Febluary on a high.

Jess O'Reilly (51no) and Tahlia McGrath (four wickets = PB) and Courtney Brideson (46) all achieved Person Bests over  the last weekend of Febluary.

In the As we struck a Karen Rolton ROADBLOCK!

We started wll with Jade and Donna having  the Port top order in early trouble taking 3-20 off the first ten overs.  They were given great support in the next 12 with Tahlia and Cara taking four more having them 7/80 in the 21st.

However our quest for wickets was held up by former Australian captain Karen Rolton.  She made 157 (after 234 no last week) in 122 balls and a 190 run 8th wicket stand took the game out of our reach.

Tahlia McGrath eventually had Karen caught in the deep by Alex Daly. This was the fourth of Tahlia's wickets (and her 20th for the season– just one behind the SACA leader.)  Earlier she had taken three wickets in 13 balls expose the Port middle order.

With the bat we achieved our aim of batting 50 overs.  Captain Jess O'Reilly completed our first A grade 50 for the season with a gritty 51 no in just over two hours.  Marg Hay (37) gave great support with an 81 run fifth wicket partnership to save any chance Port had of outright points.  Kylie Rattray hit her first six for the year to finish with 21.

The B grade's game against Sturt was dominated by Captain Courtney Brideson.  She scored a PB of 46 (34 balls – nine 4s, 1 six and four singles!), took a wicket and a catch!  (Not leaving much for anyone else!)... Brittan Miller put on 32 with Courtney for the sixth wicket and Jess Vincent did a great job bowling into the howling gale.  Kayla and Brittany took a wicket each (her first!).    Thanks to C grades Tianna, Amy and Marg who filled in after the C grade was forfeited.

Women: THE SPIRIT OF FEBLUARY

In the Cs on Sunday we saw the Spirit of Febluary in its truest sense.

There is something truly uplifting and brings a deep and inner smile to you when you see a young play really play their heart out for their team.

The Umpires gave the Febluary medal to a nine year old – Amy Gore.

Amy batted 22 balls (28 minutes) to make a Personal Best score of 3. Coming in at 2/6 she batted with her much senior partners Tianna Muirhead and Gayle Ward as they just enjoyed their cricket – finally being dismissed at 3/18. To Amy's credit she did this against much older players who encouraged her as she scampered between the wickets and played her shots. She bowled three overs in the Northern innings and field her heart out – walking in with the bowler and charging the ball when in came near her in the field.

Well done Amy and well done to the Umpires who gave the Febluary medal to a player who cheered up all around her.

The Cs lost – Northern made 112 off 20. Tianna took her 7th wicket for the season and Marg Jude her third stumping. We started badly with first game Sarah Denton getting the first diamond duck for the season (run out without facing a ball) – Marg Jude showed her continued good form with 13 no.

The Bs went down to their traditional rivals – Prospect. We made 79 with Marg Hay topscoring at Number 8 with 35 no. at one stage we were 7/24 – but a 25 run 8th wicket partnership (with Cara – 10) and 23 (with Donna – 1) gave us a defendable 79. We had them 2/7 with wicket to Donna and Cara. But a 50 run third wicket stand gave them the base they needed to win. Tahlia (Harold Larwood) McGrath took the figures with 3/9 (to take her to 22 for the season.)

Women: TAYLA MAKES SUCCESSFUL RETURN

Tayla Ferguson made a triumphant return to the Club with a four wicket haul in the Bs.

We battled hard in the Bs but could not stave off the outright.

As well as welcoming Tayla back we welcomed Brittany Miller and Jacinta Stopin to the Bs. Jacinta batted with good defensive technique in both innings – batting for 50 minutes in the first dig and showing us two great on-drives.

Brittany bowled well with 3 overs for two runs – with only one ball of the 18 scored off the bat. She also fielded superbly wherever the ball followed her.

The As got off to a great start with early wickets to Donna and Cara (first A grade wicket) against TTG (2/21). We kept them to a respectable 156 off fifty. Tahlia continued her great form with a further three wickets -now 16 - two off the SACA leader.

But our batters could not put together partnerships to make a challenge. We avoided the follow-on mark making 83 (156-75 = 81) so we did not have to bat again.

The Cs ended up with an average style game. We welcomed back Hannah Clarke.

We wish all players in the High school clash between Christies and Woodcroft this week. Tayla and Brandi for Christies and Kylie Rattray for Woodcroft.

Women: BIG WEEKEND FOR MUMS!!!!!

The highlight of the weekend has been the performance of the Mum's (Linda McGrath and Fiona Gore.) Both Mum's outscored their daughters – in Linda's case she outscored BOTH Tahlia and Kayla.

In A grade Tahlia McGrath continues her good form to see her as equal leader in the wicket takers with 13.

From a team viewpoint we were very pleased to have all three teams playing again this weekend.

The As made a competitive 124 (with 36 penalty runs this was 160). Nuggett top scored at Number 9 with 20 no, but all players batted with good concentration and kept Kensington in the field for 46 overs. Shari batted 90 minutes, Tahlia 66, Marg Hay 46, Nuggett 47 and Kylie Rattray 30.

We had the Browns 1/25 in the fifth over, but a 65 run second wicket stand and a 61 run fourth wicket stand took the game out of our reach. They passed our score with seven wickets in hand.

Tahlia had the figures with three wickets (one with a leggie!) and Donna continued her good form with 2/33.

A big thank you to team manager Barry McGrath who took on the coaching duties in Joe's absence. (Joe conducting coaching clinics in Melbourne on Sunday.)

The Bs battled hard to make 53 in their first dig, Jess Vincent top scored with 13 – but a 31 ball (34 minute) innings of 4no from OH AH L MCGRATH !!!!was the highlight for all. East Torrens captain Teena Leicester completed her second hundred in a row with 111 no when the declaration came.

We batted far better in the second dig. Cara Allen scored a PB at B grade with 18 and Courtney scored 21 to put her back into form.

We batted to 5.50 – but could not stave off the outright as they brought back their front line bowlers.

We welcomed back to Steph Barrett who played her first game for the season. A big thank you to Marg Hay and Jess O'Reilly who sub fielded for the Bs so we had 11 on the field when they batted.

The Cs made 59 against our traditional rivals Port. Captain Amy White led the way with 19 and Marg Jude made her PB for Southern with 10. We had three of the eight players from the Gore family with Mum and two daughters – equalling the efforts of the McGrath family last year in the Cs.

A warm welcome back to former C grade Captain Nikki Koritsa who played her first game for two seasons making 8 and running between the wickets very well.

Next week sees the Remembrance ceremony for Bangka Sunday at the SA Women's Memorial Playing Fields with a service at 10 am. If you are unable to make it there will also be a minutes silence before the start of games at Park 25 on Sunday.

Women: A’s down in a thriller

The As lost by one run against West Torrens on Sunday. We had the Eagles 7/68 in quest of 78 but they scored the runs. Their opening bat carried her bat for 42 no.

Tahlia McGrath took the figures with 3/18.

Jade Ambler was player of the match with 20 and 2/7. But there were very good performances from Tahlia McGrath 3/7 and Marg Hay 13.

With 26 overs to go in the second dig we got ourselves into a slight bit of trouble losing eight wickets in 12 overs – but determined batting from Donna Clark and Jade Ambler saved the outright as the captains agreed to call it off with 10 overs to go. (We led by 50 at that stage.) Dayna's quickfire 26 off 13 balls was a highlight.

The Cs were held up by some very good batting from the kensy openers who put on over 80 in the 12th over. We made 82 with good scores from Kayla McGrath (18) Courtney Brideson (15) and Brandi Ongley (13 and a PB)

With the late re-scheduling of games in B and C grade and consequent unavailability of players on Saturday we forfeited B grade.
