Women: THE SPIRIT OF FEBLUARY

In the Cs on Sunday we saw the Spirit of Febluary in its truest sense.

There is something truly uplifting and brings a deep and inner smile to you when you see a young play really play their heart out for their team.

The Umpires gave the Febluary medal to a nine year old – Amy Gore.

Amy batted 22 balls (28 minutes) to make a Personal Best score of 3. Coming in at 2/6 she batted with her much senior partners Tianna Muirhead and Gayle Ward as they just enjoyed their cricket – finally being dismissed at 3/18. To Amy's credit she did this against much older players who encouraged her as she scampered between the wickets and played her shots. She bowled three overs in the Northern innings and field her heart out – walking in with the bowler and charging the ball when in came near her in the field.

Well done Amy and well done to the Umpires who gave the Febluary medal to a player who cheered up all around her.

The Cs lost – Northern made 112 off 20. Tianna took her 7th wicket for the season and Marg Jude her third stumping. We started badly with first game Sarah Denton getting the first diamond duck for the season (run out without facing a ball) – Marg Jude showed her continued good form with 13 no.

The Bs went down to their traditional rivals – Prospect. We made 79 with Marg Hay topscoring at Number 8 with 35 no. at one stage we were 7/24 – but a 25 run 8th wicket partnership (with Cara – 10) and 23 (with Donna – 1) gave us a defendable 79. We had them 2/7 with wicket to Donna and Cara. But a 50 run third wicket stand gave them the base they needed to win. Tahlia (Harold Larwood) McGrath took the figures with 3/9 (to take her to 22 for the season.)
