Bs into GF – tail wags to bring us home

The B grade are in the Grand Final after a nail biting one wicket win over West Torrens. An eighth wicket stand of 45 gave us a sniff of victory and the calm batting of Kayla Staszuk with Brandi Ongley and Chloe Lyons saw us win in the 36th over.

Bowling first we held the Eagles to 151 – taking the last seven wickets for 50 and last five for 25.

Courtney Brideson and Brandi bowled tightly in their opening spell to hold them to 12 off the first six overs.  Courtney secured the first wicket in the 9th over, we were held up for the next 10 overs as they put on 47 for the second wicket.  They put on a further 35 for the third. But we secured wickets at regular intervals for the remaining 16 overs to dismiss them just inside the 40 overs.

We started well with Courtney and Linda Shaw putting on 33 for the first wicket in seven overs.  We lost wickets at regular intervals to be 5/61 in the 17th over.  Marg Hay and Nicole Baker put on 29 to be the first of the key partnerships.  Marg was out at 7/92 to leave us in a precarious position.

Kayla Staszuk (28 no) and Brittney Miller (8) provided the second key partnership of 45 for the eighth wicket to have us 8/137 in the 34th over and within sight of victory.  Brandi hit six to take us to within five runs and Chloe Lyons and Kayla scored two singles and a boundary in the 36th over to see us home with over three overs to spare.

The Kayla / Brittney partnership of 45 was scored of nine overs (five and over) and saw us score nine(2), eight and a  seven off overs in this part of the game as the Eagles battled to find the right bowling combination. It was our highest partnership for the eighth wicket for the year surpassing the 35 by Nicole and Hannah Baker earlier in the season.

This week we have Adelaide University - the top team - who have lost only once this season....
