Bs triumph As down and a little something from the archives....

The B grade had a convincing 73 run win over Kensington.  Batting first we made 8/149.  Chloe Lyons made her PB for Southern will a  very patient 30.  She opened and took the score to 68 in the 23rd over. Her 63 run stand with Kate Weger set the base for Kate to make 68.  She shared good partnerships with Emily (17), Sam (18) and Rachelle (35).

Cara Allen produced a gem of an opening spell to have Kensington’s top order in tatters – after five overs they were 4/13.  Captain Nicole Baker chimed in with four wickets at the end. But there were some very tight spells from Rachelle 0/9 off five and Emily 0/13 off seven.

We batted our 50 overs to be 8/116.  Georgia batted for over 45 minutes for 14, Kylie was very patient for 22 and Captain Dayna (at Number 6) made a well constructed 30.

Port got off to a flyer with 52 in the first eight overs to set them up.  State players Wellington, Dean and Clapton scored most of their runs as they passed us four down in the 21st over.  We cleaned up the game quickly after they passed us with Kelly Armstrong taking  3 four  4 and Donna picking up two late order wickets.

For six of the 11 it was the first time they had played against arguably the greatest Women’s Cricketer Karen Rolton.  Rolts was a late call up for Port – she only bowled two overs and did not face a ball when she batted.  However, her presence on the field was enough to get Port their second win for the season.

The Cs last game for the season saw Milly play her first game for the club.  We made 11/75 (6.8) to Sturt’s 10/101 (10.1).

Nikki Moyle made 19 , Ann from Kensington made 17 and Nicky Gore 13.

Don’t forget Grand Final Sunday at Adelaide Oval.

FROM THE ARCHIVES A REPORT ON OUR LAST PREMIERSHIP in C grade at the end of the2006-2007

season.

We had been heavily beaten in our first seven games for the season – but after Christmas did not lose a game…..

Still playing with us are JESS O’REILLY, RACHAEL GREENSHIELDS, SHARI BRAY AND DAYNA COX

THE C grade women gave Southern our first premiership for the season (the game finished Saturday evening!). In a typical hard fought game we triumphed by 28 runs.

The game was reduced to 30 overs a side and started late due to the rain on Friday.  Port won the toss and sent us in.

Our 150 run target was set up with an 87 run second wicket stand by Captain Jess O’Reilly and Jasmin Thompson.   This was supported by a 39 run stand in 37 balls from Jasmin and Shari Bray.

Port needed to score at 5.0 an over to win – after 11 overs this had stretched to almost seven after a  superb opening bowling spell from Jasmin Thompson (0/8 off six) and Amy Slattery (0/8 off five).

Quick wickets from Shaunie Green and Dayna Cox put further pressure on the Port batters.  But a 63 run second wicket stand saw Port with 56 to score of 42 balls.  Consecutive wickets to Shari Bray meant   Port needed 54 off 36. After a quick flurry from Port tail ender Starcy Mayes (13 off nine balls) the Port chase for   was aborted.

Once again a game against Port was a hard fought affair (with previous wins by 20 and 54 runs being won in similar circumstances.)
