Febluary round

All three Women’s teams lost in the Febluary Round.

The As fell 47 runs short against perennial rivals Sturt, the Bs were well beaten by West Torrens and the Cs went down by  fraction of a run against Kensington.

In the As the Blues lost an early wicket (1/21 in the sixth) but State players Peate (25) and Price (41) set a sound base taking them to 1/78 in the 20th over.  We took seven middle order wickets to have them 8/137 in the 43rd but could not close out the innings.  They finished with 9/161.  Jess, Tahlia and Donna took two wickets apiece.

We lost wickets at steady intervals until Kylie (25) and Donna (8) put on 29 for the seventh wicket.

We finished with 114.

It was a warm welcome back to Shari Bray who is now teaching at Riverton.

The Bs had a century scored against them for consecutive games.  West Torrens 8/162 saw first gamers Rachel Steele take two wickets and Rachelle Martin bowled very economically to finish with 0/15 off six overs.

The less said about our batting the better – all out for 16.

In their second inning they made 3/52 with two wickets for Amy and Rachelle Martin taking her first wicket for Southern.

The Cs lost by a fraction of a run.

The C grade comp is an average game.  Kensis made 7/109 (average 15.5).  Guest Kensington player Chloe Frick took five wickets, Nicki Gore and Serena Ongley took a wicket each.

We replied with 3/44 (average 14.66).  Nikki Moyle Moyle top scored with 15 – including three fours.  At one stage we needed a boundary off the last three balls to win the game – but tightly bowling and good fielding from Kensis gave them the win.

We had three debutants in the C grade including Caitlin, Abbey and Luke.  We also welcome back the Gore twins who played with us two seasons ago.

A big thank you to Nikki Moyle and Serena Ongley who “doubled up” on Sunday with games in B and C grade.
