Women: A grade lose in brave effort to last years premiers

In a game very much affected by the windy conditions we were very competitive against last years SACA Women's Premiers West Torrens.

Losing the toss we had a wicket in the first over with DAYNA COX taking the first wicket LBW from the 3rd legal delivery of the match. Torrens added 99 for the second wicket when Alex Daly through down the stumps from side-on. Shari Bray took the valuable wicket of opposition captain Angela Moritz (49) to have the Eagles 3/129 in the 26th. But a fourth wicket stand of 54 took them to 183 in the 40th. We took wickets steadily to dismiss them for 222 in the 50th over.

Tahlia McGrath was the most economical of the 10 over bowlers with 1/23 off 10 overs. Kylie Rattray bowled well with 0/9 off five and Jade Ambler did some hard yakka into the breeze to finish with two wickets.

Kate Weger kept exceptionally well with no byes in the 222 runs scored.

We started well with a 43 run opening stand between Shari and Dayna. This was made up of only 14 runs off the bat in the seventh over. We lost four wickets in the next 15 overs to be 5/76 after 22 overs. Kylie (16) and Jade (14) with a 30 run stand gave us a chance at 5/106 in the 25th and a 34 run stand for the 8th wicket between Nicole "Nugget" Adams (17) and Jade saw us within sight at 7/158 with 15 overs left and a chance of penalty runs for slow over rate.

However, despite some resolute batting from Jade (97 minutes) and Jess Vincent (23 minutes) we were bowled out for 187.
