Women: HISTORIC FIRST A GRADE WIN

HISTORIC FIRST WIN

In only our second game in A grade we won a hard fought game over Kensington by two wickets.

Batting first the Browns were soon in trouble with six wickets falling to our opening bowlers Jess O'Reilly and Dayna Cox. Jess took three wickets in her second over to reduce Kensy's top order to 4/17 after five overs. Jess finished with 4/18 and Dayna 2/30.

They were well supported by Donna Clark and Alex Daly who both took their first A grade wickets.

Kensington's score of 76 looked to be achievable.

However, we were in early trouble – losing opener Dayna Cox first ball. Solid partnerships between Jess O'Reilly and Rachael Greenshields (16), Jade Ambler and Rachael (18) and Kylie Rattray and Jade (14) took us to 3/48 with 25 overs left. We had a mid order collapse 5 /12 to be 8/62 with 15 overs to go. For the second week in a row Nic "Nugget" Adams (11) batted with solid defence and tempered aggression to make 11. She was well supported by Alex Daly to see us pass the score in the 38th over.

Alex and Kate Weger put the icing on the cake with a final wicket stand of 27 (unbroken.) We received 12 penalty runs for Kensington not bowling their overs in the required time.
