McGraths dominate Blues – but fall 40 runs short

 

The game against Sturt saw Tahlia McGrath score 69 and take two wickets and sister Kayla taking a wicket and a run out together with 14 runs.  Their  80 run third wicket stand took us to within striking distance ( we needed 68 off 12 overs at a little under a run a ball.) But the loss of Kayla and Kylie rattray swung the game back in the Blues favour.

Losing the toss we put great fielding pressure our opponents.  We had them 3/20 in the 10^th over (two run outs) and 8/80 in the 30^th.  But late wicket stands of 38 for the 9^th and 10^th wickets took them to an above par 156.

Brandi Ongley took two wickets (her first in A grade) and Tahlia McGrath took two in two balls to finish with 2/32.

We lost two early wickets in the chase to be 2/12 in the 11^th.  But the McGrath sisters put together a well constructed 80 run stand.  Kayla batted patiently for 14 (with some aggressive work toward the end of the innings) and Tahlia all but carried her bat, batting deep into the last over.
