….. whilst it’s Hannah2 for Southern District
Meanwhile, thanks to her efforts at Marryatville High School, Southern District’s Hannah Armstrong has been named the Powerade Player of the Round for round one of the Powerade Twenty20 Cup.
The Stingrays travelled east to take on the Browns, with Kensington winning the toss and electing to bat. The Browns got off to a steady start, reaching 23 runs before losing opener Alice Johnswood thanks to a catch by Hannah. One run later number three Alana Mutton was dismissed and the Browns looked to be in some trouble at 2/24. The Stingray bowlers kept the runs tight limiting the Browns to 8/84 from their 20 overs; Hannah Baker taking 2/22 from her four overs while Armstrong took another catch, this time off her own bowling, and recorded figures of 1/16 from four overs.
In reply, the opening pair of the two Hannah’s, Armstrong (33*) and Baker (4), reached 31 before Baker was bowled by Sarah Nash. While regular wickets fell for the Stingrays the runs kept on ticking over, Armstrong continued to bat through the innings hitting four boundaries in her top score for the Stingrays. Emily Jones and Sarah Fraser were standouts for the Browns with the pair taking two wickets apiece as Southern District finished their 20 overs on 6/93.
The following week it was Hannah Armstrong’s opening batting partner, Hannah Baker, who had a great performance with the bat in the Stingrays win over the newly merge Tea Tree Gully/Northern Districts team.
Southern District won the toss and elected to bowl first, a move that paid off early for the Stingrays as TTG/ND lost an early wicket to be 1/0. Stefanie Aworth (11) and Myra Mordaunt (23) then went about rebuilding the TTG/ND innings, the pair put on 30 runs before Aworth was dismissed. Hannah Baker came in first change and bowled a very tight three overs, only conceding seven runs. A couple more quick wickets had TTG/ND struggling at 6/57, but Carolyn Dittmar (12) and Courtney Fielke (19) helped TTG/ND to take the score past 100 with some late innings hitting. TTG/ND finished their allotted 20 overs on 6/103.
Southern District’s innings started steadily, reaching 19 before Hannah Armstrong was dismissed after a quick fire 13 from 14 balls. But Hannah Baker and Kelly Armstrong went about chasing down the TTG/ND total, the pair shared in a 51 run partnership before Hannah was run out for 29. Kelly Armstrong was then joined by Nicole Moyle (16*) who kept the runs ticking over as the pair reached the TTG/ND total with balls to spare. Hannah Baker’s innings of 29 included four boundaries and unfortunately for Hannah she fell just one run short of the compulsory retirement score of 30 runs.
Henry, Hannah Armstrong and Hannah Baker will be automatically included in the Powerade Junior Team of the Year and will be awarded a 'Powerade Junior Cricketer of the Round' pack at their respective clubs. They will also be invited to attend a function at the Adelaide Oval at the end of the season, acknowledging them, along with other nominees throughout the year, of their outstanding performances over the season.
