SportSA Volunteer Award recipient Robyn LeCornu
Invaluable long-time cricket volunteer Robyn LeCornu was presented the 2011 SportSA Volunteer Award at the KMPG Celebration of South Australia Sport at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Friday November 18 2011. Robyn was nominated by the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) in September and was one of three finalists.
The award recognises an individual who has made a significant contribution to the sports industry in a voluntary capacity. In February this year, Robyn was awarded a Cricket Australia 50 years’ service medal recognising her efforts as a cricket volunteer. Her dedication to cricket over the past five decades through her tireless efforts as a coach, umpire and administrator is admirable and she can take pride in knowing that she is the reason many females are involved in the sport.
Robyn’s extensive administration background includes being recently appointed to the South Australian Metropolitan Cricket Association (SAMCA) Board, held chairperson of the SACA Women’s Cricket Committee and has been a general member since 2007. Along with being involved at an association level, Robyn has also held administration roles at various Grade Clubs. Robyn has also been a proactive advocate of ‘FeBLUary’, an awareness campaign introduced by her current club Southern District.
While still being involved in the game as a player (one of the few Grade Cricketers that has played in every decade since the 1960’s), Robyn has regularly taken up a position behind the stumps as an umpire, being a SACA accredited umpire since 1973 and regularly renewing her accreditation. Robyn has coached junior cricketers of many different levels, including primary school teams, high school teams, junior grade boy’s teams and state female under age teams.
Not only is cricket better off due to her involvement, but her passion for a myriad of other sports is astounding. Robyn has also found time to participate in and help out other sports such as basketball, badminton, hockey, netball, mini Olympics, multi-skills, scooter hockey, tennis and volleyball.
Robyn is a warm, kind natured volunteer who is a great credit not only to cricket, but South Australian sport in general. SACA is exceptionally lucky to have had the pleasure of dealing with Robyn over the years, as have a number of other sporting associations, clubs and schools, involving men and women/boys and girls, who have also benefitted from her tireless involvement.
Congratulations Robyn on being named SportSA volunteer of the year, a truly deserved award.
