The As fought well to go down in the 18th over to West Torrens.
Batting first Tahlia and Rachael got us off to the perfect start with 58 off 11 overs – but we could not maintain the rate to finish with 104. Dayna 16 off 11 gave us some late order momentum.
The West Torrens openers Symonds and Smith had them ahead of the required rate with 67 off 10 and they maintained their strong position to run out winners in the 18th over.
Hannah Armstrong became player Number 31 – taking a wicket and making 1 no in her debut game.
The Bs (with six of the eight players from last week’s C grade) chased leather for 20 overs with Sturt finishing 4/130. Kelly Armstrong took two wickets in “the death” over with some very good leg spin bowling.
Hannah Baker top scored with 8 (batting for 19 balls) and Nikki Moyle 21 balls and Emily Armstrong 15 balls put up some good defence.
Unfortunately the Cs (who had not dropped a game all season) had to forfeit. SACA rules say the bottom graded team must forfeit first.
We had a number of unforeseen problems this week due to late illness; broken fingers on Saturday morning and late call ins to work.
This year we have had 39 players represent the Stingrays in our teams this year – but with 18 players unavailable it is very difficult to fill three teams.
A big thank you to all players who played “up” this week – especially those phoned at very short notice.
Also a thank you to those players who told us early in the week of their unavailability – this helps selectors contact people who may be able to fill in.
Please please keep the next two Sundays December 4 and December 11 clear as these are the next times when all THREE teams are required.
