As in GF of T20

The A grade completed their pre-Christmas campaign with a convincing win over Port.

The win guarantees us a spot in the T20 GF at Adelaide Oval on March 3.

We have 90 points from our six games (6-0) compared with Kensington 60 points (4-2) who sit in 3rd spot. We have a superior percentage.  Kensington also have to play second placed TTG / Northern.

All teams have two games to play.

Our win was set up by some superb bowling and fielding – Dayna had the State squad member  Alicia Dean caught behind for 1 with her first ball and despite some useful partnerships they dismissed for  87.

Jess bowled well to take 3/14 and Kelly Armstrong took 2/12 – with Dayna taking the two state players Dean and Picker.

Our batting was led superbly by Rachael Greenshields who top scored with 35 no.  This was Rachael’s PB in A grade and was scored off 41 balls (5 fours).  She drove well with deft footwork and played her trademark shots off her legs to devastating effect.

Jess gave great support (27) to have an opening partnership of 70.

At one stage it looked like an all wicket repeat of last week’s B grade win over the same side but Jess was run out within sight of victory.

Kylie put the “cream on the cake” with two sixes off the three balls she faced to finish the game.

(We think they may have had small Christmas card  messages on them to the state selectors!!!!!)

The Christmas break sees us top of the T20 (6-0) and fourth in the 50 over comp (2 wins 2 losses and a washout) to have the best start to a season ever!!!

The Bs finished fourth in the T20 comp with three wins to have their best first half of the season.

We wish Tahlia, Kylie and Tabitha all the best for their upcoming Under 18s championship in Ballarat.

And all the best for the festive season and 2013 can not come on quickly enough for the Women’s teams.

The Bs resume on January 13 with the As resuming a week later.

The break may give some players the chance to play in the senior men’s grades. Enjoy… and see what you can learn from some of the wise players who have played at the top level.

Don’t forget the quiz night on the 19th January.

KYLIE IN STATE TEAM FOR THE WEEKEND - A new McGrath at Southern!

We wish Kylie Rattray all the best in her first FULL WEEKEND of state cricket.  She has been chosen in the games this weekend against New South Wales at Prospect Friday (T20), Saturday (50 over) and Adelaide Oval on Sunday.  The Sunday game starts at 3pm and is a curtain raiser to the Big Bash game.

We have another McGrath at Southern.  Josh (brother of Tahlia and Kayla) played Under 12s this week.  He is a medium pacer and opened the bowling at Bice Oval on Wednesday. This means Mum (Linda) two sisters and a brother have all played for Southern.
The record is held by the Ongley family where (Mum) Nat,  (Dad) Glen, Brandi and Serena have all donned the Stingrays uniform.
The Vincent family Russell (Dad), Josh and Jess are the only family where all three have played A GRADE for the club.

KELLY HAT TRICK …. AGAIN!!! Bs have "all wicket" win

The B grade finished their T20 season in grand style with a crushing eight wicket win over Port.

We won the game with all wickets in hand after Hannah Armstrong 37 no and Brandi Ongley 34 no (PB) passed the Port score with 16 balls to spare.

The Port innings was highlighted by a Kelly Armstrong hat trick (her SECOND FOR THE SEASON) finishing the Port innings with four wickets in five balls.

Port’s batting was led by former state player Carolyn Johnstone who carried her bat for 53 no of 85.

The As game was washed out giving us 7.5 points against second side TTG / Northern .

This week’s T20 game against Port is very important.  A win will put us back on top and guarantee us a spot in the T20 final at Adelaide Oval on March 3.

We wish Tahlia, Kylie and Tabitha all the best in Ballarat for the Under 18 Nationals in January.

Reminder
Keep getting your tables and prizes together for the Quiz night on Saturday January 19.

State Under 15 update and news

The State Under 15 team finished fourth in the National Championships held in Sydney recently. We lost to eventual champions NSW and to the ACT in the minor round.
In the last game against WA we needed a big win but could not score enough points to get over Victoria (who we had beaten in the minor round.)
Southern players had good tournaments with some excellent performances.
Tabitha Saville was our topscorer with 162 runs at 23 - with a strike rate of 89 runs / 100 balls. Tabitha scored a PB of 55 against WA.
Hannah Armstrong scored her PB with a 60 against WA.
Kelly Armstrong took nine wickets at 11.33 apiece (with 3/9 against Victoria)
Kayla McGrath hit 27 against NSW.
#######################################################################

The A grade's next game T20 against Port at Bice is very important for our quest for the GF in that competition on March 3.
The win of Kensington over West Torrens sees them with a chance to make the final as they have East Torrens in the next round.
Second team TTG /  Northern will go ahead of us on percentage after their big win over Port this weekend.
**************************************************************************

This week we have TTG / Northern in a 50 over game Saturday and the Bs play at home at Bice on Sunday against Port in their last T20 game for the season.
The B grade season will recommence the second Sunday in January with 40 over games.

Don't forget the TWILIGHT RACE MEETING this Saturday evening...
and start getting your teams together for the Quiz night on January 19.

As continue winning form

The A grade  continue their winning form this week defeating last year’s grand finalists West Torrens in a hard fought match at Christies High.
As usual Christies played slowly – but due credit to our batters we batted our 50 overs for the fourth time for the season.  This time making 6/157.  The innings was anchored by Jess O’Reilly who went in at the end of the first over and batted the rest of the innings for 64 no. (This continues her good form over West Torrens as she carried her bat for 52 no in the T20 game earlier in the season.)

She was involved in two key partnerships; 50 for the third wicket with Dayna Cox (14) which steadied the innings and 84 with Kylie Rattray (43) to give us the upper hand.
Jess faced 133 balls hitting six 4s and a six in two hours.

Kylie’s 43 take her to 311 runs for the season across the two competitions at 44.38 per innings.
We made early in roads into the Eagles innings having them 2/22 in the 7th over (with state players Moritz and Oakenfold out.)  The big stumbling block was always going to be the state captain Lauren Ebsary who threatened to do what Jess had done for Southern.

At one stage West Torrens were 2/80 in the 23rd over (well ahead of Southern’s 3/64).  But the wickets of L Williams at 80 and Ebsary at 86 put us back in the game. We bowled and fielded well in the middle stages of the innings to squeeze the required rate from 2.8 per over out to over five.
Jess continued her good work with the ball taking 1/15 off her ten overs.  Tahlia took the key wickets of L Williams and her state captain Lauren Ebsary to take the figures with 3/19, Dayna took 3/34 and Donna Clark continued her good form with 2/24.

Georgia Weatherspoon fielded superbly taking two sharp catches.
The win takes us into the four for the first time for the season in the long form of the game.

Congratulations to Sam Dowling who played her first A grade game.  Sam played in the first Southern teams with Jess O’Reilly.
With our Bye in the A T20s this weekend we should have a clearer idea of our finals position as teams three and four play each other.

In state news the U15s have won three and lost two of their games – they look like they are in a fight for second spot with Victoria who they beat in the minor round. So a win over WA on Monday should see them in the GF Tuesday.
Highlights from our players have included

Tabitha Saville 40 v Queensland

  Kelly Armstrong's  9 wickets including 3/9 v Victoria

And Kayla McGrath 27 against NSW.

Kayla McGrath State U15 Captain

Kayla McGrath will captain the Under 15 SA Scorpions side in the national championships to be held in Sydney in late November and early December.

Kayla was also captain of the SAPSASA team over the last two seasons.

She has had a very good season this year with 13 wickets at 7.21 per wicket (and taking a wicket every 10 balls!!!) - gaining a reputation for bowling at the death and claiming tail enders with her accurate left arm medium pacers.

We wish her and fellow Stingrays Hannah and Kelly Armstrong and Alice Springs based Stingray Tabitha Saville well over the next few days.

Go well, learn lots and enjoy the game.

A’s breakthrough for first 50 over win - Donna finishes with 3 in 4 - Bs down to top team

The As opened their account in the 50 over comp with a 52 run win over Port.

Batting first we batted our overs making 7/145.   This was about par on the slow running Christies High ground.  Tahlia was the backbone of the inning with a patient 44 (115).  She opened at batting well into the 43rd over.  Her partnership of 58 with Kylie (42 off 52) set up the innings and her 46 run stand with Marg Hay (27 off 55) was the cream on the cake.

Kylie’s 42 was punctuated with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

We field well – getting a run out in the fourth over to put the pressure Port.  Wickets fell in clusters as Dayna took three in six balls across her fifth and sixth overs, Kayla took three in four overs and Donna finished the innings with three in four balls.

The Bs were set 67 off 20 at Christies.  Brandi and Hannah gave us a great start with the ball to have West Torrens 3/7 in the 5th over but a 50 run fourth wicket stand took the game out of our reach.

We also had an early order collapse to be 3/1 after two overs.

Hannah batted for 45 minutes for 11 to be our top scorer.

Many thanks to Chloe and Kelly who sub fielded for the Bs on Sunday.

We have a bye next week and at least six players away for the December 2 round. So if you can’t play please tell Kempey or Marg ASAP.

The C grade has their only pre-Christmas game on Sunday December 2.

Thanks to everyone in the Christies Open Market display Saturday morning.  We have at least two leads for sponsorship from this display.

Congratulations to Kayla McGrath, Hannah and Kelly Armstrong and Tabitha Saville who have been chosen to represent SA in the Under 15 state team in Sydney in late November early December.  Go well!!!

Good luck also to Kayla McGrath who will be the flag bearer on Saturday during the Test Match.  Donna, Rachael, Dayna, Cara and Shaunie Green have also been granted this honour.

As continue to win, Kylie in rich vein of form, Bs last ball win

The As continued their domination of the T20 competition with a 43 run win over perennial rivals Sturt.  This makes FIVE IN A ROW with three to play.

We won the toss and batted (5th game in a row in this competition.) starting slowly being 1/35 at the end of 10 overs at 15 overs we were 3/74.  But a 57 run (34 balls) partnership between Marg Hay 15 off 16 and Kylie Rattray 59 (36) took the game away from the Blues.

Kylie’s innings of 59 (her top score for the season) included 8 fours and 3 sixes. The three sixes came in five balls from former State bowler Fiona McDonald in the last three overs of the innings.

Jess O’Reilly and Dayna Cox were provided very good support with 11 and 15 respectively followed by   a catch and two stumpings in one over.  (Kylie now has NINE STUMPINGS for the season.)

Youngsters Kelly Armstrong and Kayla McGrath cleaned up the Sturt innings in the 13-16th overs taking five wickets for seven runs including opener Eliza Bartlett for 33.

Kylie’s stats are worth looking at for the season

She has made 204 runs averaging 68 per innings at a run rate of 136 runs per 100 balls. She has also taken 14 dismissals in five games (7 stumpings, 3 catches and 3 run outs)

The Bs got out of jail in the Sunday game – winning with two runs off the last ball.

Fielding first Port set us 100 off 20 overs.  Reflex catches from Joy Brown and Sam Dowling were the highlights of our fielding.  Chloe took 2/12 and Brandi bowled tightly to their top order.

Brandi got us off to a flyer with 25 off 24 balls (16 off the first two overs!), Cara continued her good form with 18 and Kayla Staszuk made her best score for the season with 15.  We looked pretty well set at 2/71 in the 14th needing 30 off seven overs.  But the loss of Kayla and in the 18th Cara slowed our progress.  Emily Armstrong made six and Sam Dowling 9no to see us home.
Sam had the pressure on her in the last over with six needed off the last two balls – she hit a four off the second last and scrambled two on a misfield to see us 4/100 off our 20.

We have a role at the Christies Open market day on Saturday and A grade and B grade games at Christies High on Saturday and Sunday.

This week not so good

Both teams came up short against last year’s finalists.

The As chased for the first time for the season.

We had English international Beth Morgan caught early – but a 137 run second wicket stand between Sheridan and Lowe saw Kensington 2/159 at 31 overs and set to make close to 300.  We fought back taking 3/10 in six overs either side of the 34 over drinks break and slowed their scoring from overs 30-42 – but they fought back in the last eight overs to make 235.

Tahlia McGrath bowled well in two spells to finish with 2/38 sister Kayla also bowled tightly in the mid part of the innings finishing with 2/24 in her six over spell.

Our innings started solidly with 48 off the first 13 overs.  We scored 27 off overs 9, 10 and 11 to set up a charge but three quick wickets halted our quest for quick runs.  An 85 run partnership between Marg Hay (51) and Dayna Cox (29) saw us 3/139 in the 38th over needing 95 off 12 overs (at just over eight an over.)  Kylie provided some fireworks in overs 41 (13 runs) and over 43 (15 runs) to have us 5/178 (needing 60 off the last seven) and give us just a sniff of victory.  But the loss of quick wickets saw us dismissed off the last ball 33 runs short.

The Bs came up against the powerful Adelaide Uni.  They made 2/159 off 20 with wickets to Cara and Nuggett.

We started well with 17 off the first four overs but lost wickets steadily to be 7/29 in the 1oth over.  But an enterprising and entertaining last wicket stand of 32 saw us bat to the end of 19th over.  Cara Allen batted well for 29 not out.

The highlight of the match was a 26 minute (21 balls) innings of 5 from 9 year old first gamer Ebony Fletcher.  She batted courageously and was give great encouragement from team mates.

The umpires complimented both sides on their Spirit of the game in this partnership.

Happy birthday to all the Novemberites - and there are many of us.  I won’t name them all as I usually leave someone out!

This week back to T20s for the A grade as we take on Sturt on Saturday (venue to be confirmed) and the Bs who travel to Eric Sutton on Sunday.

Kylie state debut - Both teams have wins

This weekend saw a very successful weekend for the Women’s teams.

The As made it four in a row in the T20 competition.

The Bs broke through for their first win.

Kylie Rattray earned her first state game on Sunday – making the second player to make the Scorpion team from Southern.

The As lost the toss and were sent in.  (We have now batted first in all five games this season.)

Rachael got us off to the perfect start with twos off the first two balls off state rep Keira Stockley, however when running off the 3rd ball for a leg bye she was given out lbw, as was Dayna next ball.

Marg Hay 22 off 39 and Jess O’Reilly 35 (37) stabilised the innings and later scored at better than a run a ball against their first and second change bowlers to take us to 2/70 in the 12th.

Kylie Rattray (fresh from her state debut) came out and blasted 40 off 26 with 5 fours and 2 sixes to take us to 125 at better than a run a ball.
We had them in early trouble with two wickets to Donna in her first two overs.  A further wicket to Dayna in her second over had them 3/7.

They rebuilt their innings through state players Cara Fiebig and Neesha Iles – but Jess took Neesha’s wicket  and we had them 4/39 at the end of 7th. The Fiebig sisters (who had troubled us in previous seasons) looked like they may take the game away from us as they put on 15 in three overs – but Dayna’s return to the crease saw the dismissal of Jess.  They were 5/56 in the 10th with one recognised batter remaining (needing 70 off 60 balls).  We were able to keep the pressure on with the last two wickets being run outs as they tried to score the runs.

The Bs win was equally creditable.
We fielded first and dismissed TTG – Northern for 60 in the 16th over.

Brandi bowled economically early to finish with 0/5, but it was Kayla McGrath bowling at the death who cleaned up the tail (2/10).  Captain Nicole Baker chimed in mid innings with 2/9.
Our reply was set up by Brandi (12) and Nuggett 30 no – who put on 37 for the first wicket in seven overs.

We thank TTG-Northern for allowing us to bat on after the official end of the game with Chloe, Emily, Kayla McGrath and Sam Walton all having valuable “in the middle practice” in match conditions.
Thanks to the Armstrong family who organised the all day BBQ extravaganza which included egg and bacon for breakfast for the SAPSASA practice before our games.

*****************************************************************************

Kylie Rattray made her Scorpions debut on Sunday.

On Friday and Saturday  she had 13th person duties (50 over) but  was called into the side on Sunday for the T20 with the injury to Amanda Wellington.

She made 7 off 11 balls with one 4 and fielded for the last five overs of the ACT innings.

KELLY ARMSTRONG – HAT TRICK! Kylie completes with Stumping!

The As continued their winning form in the T20 comp to be top after three rounds.

We completely dominated East Torrens making 2/196 off 20 overs.  Tahlia  51,, Jess 61 and Kylie 54 no (26 balls) dominating with the bat.

We bowled them out for 64 in an innings highlighted by Kelly Armstrong’s hat trick. She bowled batter New with the last ball of her 3rd over and had batters N Smith and Guatta stumped with the first two balls of her fourth over. Kayla McGrath and Jess O’Reilly also took two wickets apiece.

Kylie’s stumpings take her to six for the season across the two competitions with four catches.

In the 50 over comp we lost to our nemesis team Sturt.

Batting first we got off to a solid start with Rachael (12) and Tahlia (27) seeing of the State opening bowlers Megan Schutt and Rhianna Peate. But it was the state off spinner Price who halted our momentum. Dayna continued her good form with 30 – being run out just as she was starting to launch.

We finished with 118 – batting our allotted overs.

We bowled and fielded well with Dayna and Donna dismissing their openers inside the first eight overs. We took a third wicket in the 10th over to have them 3/36 – but a 48 run 4th wicket partnership took the game out of our reach.  They passed us in the 28th over.

Kelly Armstrong bowled well taking two wickets and Kylie had her FOURTH stumping for the season (all off the faster bowlers).

 ************************************************************************************************

The Bs lost to Sturt.

Sturt batted first making 4/106 at Christies High.  Emily Armstrong took the figures with 2/16.

Chasing we lost early wickets to be 4/22 in the 8th over.  Nugget (33 no) and Cara Allen (10) scored at four an over for the next 11 overs to take us to 66 in the 17th.

We finished 6/74 batting our 20 overs.

Nugget was the second B grader in two games to carry her bat ( after Brandi carried it for 25 no last week.)

This week we are against the undefeated TTG – Northern at 3.10 in he As and 12 noon for the Bs – both games at Gordon Brown.

As win two in a row – Donna wins international honours – T Mac gives SA a tie!!!

As win two in a row – Donna wins international honours – T Mac gives SA a tie!!!

The A grade have given us the best start to a season ever with another nail biting eight run win in Round 2 of the T20s.

Batting first Marg Hay got us off to a flyer with 24 off 19 to have us 2/47 in the 10th over.  Dayna played the sheet anchor role 38 off 62 and Kylie 28 off 35 put on an unbroken 68 run partnership to see us 2/115 after 20.  (one run more than last week!)

Donna Clark fresh from her South African success gave us the perfect start with two wickets in her first eight balls.  But they got away from us in the next eight overs to be 3/74 after 10 overs.  We played ourselves back into the game with in the next three overs taking three wickets to have them 6/93 in the 14th over.  Dayna Cox took the important wicket of opener Amy Wiseman 39 off 33 in the 16th over to almost seal the victory.  Kylie produced her third stumping in two games to finish the game.

The Bs were not so lucky going down by five runs in a run chase.

We made the perfect start taking  3 for 4 off the first five overs with two wickets to Kayla Staszuk and one to Brandi.  But newcomer Plumridge took the game into competitive territory and later out of our hands with 22 off 24 balls.  They made 5/74 off 20 overs.

We lost wickets early to be 3/22 in the 7th over.  Brandi and returnee Samantha Dowling 22 (24) took it to 3/62 (needing 13 off five overs) to have us within touch.  But we lost two wickets in the next three overs to just fall short.  Brandi carried her bat for 25 no off 49 balls.

This week the As have their first 50 over game v Sturt at Helen Black. (11.50 start)

The Bs will be at Christies for a T20 against Sturt (12 noon start)

Donna Clark’s trip to South Africa went well with the Australian Under 16 side winning the World Title and Donna making the International Team of the Tournament.

T Mac played her first full weekend of state cricket  - hitting two runs off the last ball of the Friday T20 to tie the game and take 2 for… and make 40 in the 50 over game Saturday.

Welcome to Stacey Walton for her first B grade game for us over the weekend.

And a warm re-welcome to Samantha Dowling who returns to us after four seasons with Kangarilla. Sam was an original Stingray playing with Jess, Dayna and Courtney in the first games of Under 13s Scorpions shield.

A's start with a win

The A grade opened the season with an 11 run win over last year’s Grand Finalist’s West Torrens.

Under newly appointed Captain Dayna Cox we won the toss and batted scoring 5/114 of our 20 overs.  Jess O’Reilly carried her bat for an unbeaten 52 no (62 balls) to play the sheet anchor role.

She was well supported by Kylie Rattray 19 (22 balls) and Georgia Weatherspoon (4) sharing in a 32 run stand and Marg Hay 7 (4 balls).  Marg and Jess took 22 of the last two overs to get us to 114.

We took the wickets of state reps Moritz and Oakenford in the first seven overs to have us in the game.

Tahlia bowled well for 1 for 4 off three overs to take the figures.   But it was Kylie Rattray in her new role as keeper who turned the game with two critical stumpings as she threw down the stumps standing back to medium pacers Cara Allen and Dayna Cox.

Cara Allen bowled a critical last over to seal the win.

Both umpires and opposition commented on our improved fielding.  (thanks to Glen!)

Next week we wish Tahlia well in her first full weekend on State duties in Brisbane with the Scorpions.

Games next week at Ford Oval Kensington are at 10 am (B grade) and 1.10 pm for the As. (Both games are on Sunday)

INDOOR TEAM IN GF

The Stingrays Indoor team have made their fourth Grand Final in five years with a 14 run victory over Got the Runs.
This season we reverted to a one team entry using a combination of junior female and Under 16 male players.
We won enough games to finish second.
In the semi final we made 145 with excellent contributions from Eben and Jamie 46 and Ash and Brandi 46.  The were well backed up by Donna and Rachael and Cara and Chloe who made 25 apiece.
We held Got the Runs to 10, 36 and 38 from their first three pairs meaning their last pair needed 61.  They scored 47.

Thanks to all

Thanks to all who were involved in organising the Donna Clark fundraiser.  We raised over $2,500.
Well done for your support and the fantastic efforts of Donna's Mum Tess and her band of helpers.

Bs go down in GF

There was no fairy tale finish in the B Grade GF.  Adelaide Uni – undefeated all season continued to steamroll teams and won by 153 runs.

Batting first we had them 3/40 in the 13th with a very productive opening spell from Courtney Brideson (1/8 off four) and Brandi Ongley 1/8 off four – with Kayla Stazsuk taking 1/13 off three we were well in the game.  However a 111 run 4th wicket stand between Romi Corso (68) and Fullston Medallist Kylie Tulloch (51) took the game out of our grasp.

They finished with an imposing 194.  Our problems continued with the run out of Linda Shaw in the first over and the steady loss of wickets.  We could not establish a steadying partnership apart from Robyn LeCornu (10) and Brandi Ongley (2) who put on 17 for the 9th wicket. All out 41.

Well done to all concerned in the post-Christmas season – to have struggled over the last 2 ½ seasons to just get a team on the park to Grand Finalists was a great effort.

Thanks to our loyal support crew of volunteers and especially our cheer squad for the GF.

Many thanks to Rob Lecornu for her input over the last two seasons. Rob has decided to move on and offer her experience and expertise to Kensington.  We wish her well in her new venture.

The B grade are in the Grand Final after a nail biting one wicket win over West Torrens. An eighth wicket stand of 45 gave us a sniff of victory and the calm batting of Kayla Staszuk with Brandi Ongley and Chloe Lyons saw us win in the 36th over.

Bowling first we held the Eagles to 151 – taking the last seven wickets for 50 and last five for 25.

Courtney Brideson and Brandi bowled tightly in their opening spell to hold them to 12 off the first six overs.  Courtney secured the first wicket in the 9th over, we were held up for the next 10 overs as they put on 47 for the second wicket.  They put on a further 35 for the third. But we secured wickets at regular intervals for the remaining 16 overs to dismiss them just inside the 40 overs.

We started well with Courtney and Linda Shaw putting on 33 for the first wicket in seven overs.  We lost wickets at regular intervals to be 5/61 in the 17th over.  Marg Hay and Nicole Baker put on 29 to be the first of the key partnerships.  Marg was out at 7/92 to leave us in a precarious position.

Kayla Staszuk (28 no) and Brittney Miller (8) provided the second key partnership of 45 for the eighth wicket to have us 8/137 in the 34th over and within sight of victory.  Brandi hit six to take us to within five runs and Chloe Lyons and Kayla scored two singles and a boundary in the 36th over to see us home with over three overs to spare.

The Kayla / Brittney partnership of 45 was scored of nine overs (five and over) and saw us score nine(2), eight and a  seven off overs in this part of the game as the Eagles battled to find the right bowling combination. It was our highest partnership for the eighth wicket for the year surpassing the 35 by Nicole and Hannah Baker earlier in the season.

This week we have Adelaide University - the top team - who have lost only once this season....

Bs enter finals in winning form - As brave in defeat

The B grade enter the finals in winning form after a convincing 129 run win over last year’s premiers East Torrens.

We batted first but were in early trouble being 4/24.  Good partnerships between Marg Hay (84) and Courtney Brideson (13) 26, Robyn Lecornu (8no)/ Emily Armstrong (8) 48, Nicole Baker (20) 58 and 16 between Brandi Ongley (6) and Brittney Miller (8) gave us 9/174.

Marg batted into the 36th over and took the sting out of the East Torrens attack.  She only hit six boundaries and was suffering from cramp as she tried to accelerate the scoring.

We had The Easterners 5/15 after our opening bowlers finished their opening spell of eight overs and looked set for a second innings, but they kept us in the field until just after 5pm.  Courtney continued her good wicket taking form with 3/3. She was well backed up by Brandi 2/12 and Linda Shaw 2/5.

The B grade go into the finals finishing second.  This is  great effort from this team as we only won one game in the T20 comp before Christmas.

This week we play West Torrens at a venue to be decided on Tuesday.

The As were brave in defeat for the second game in a row.

Bowling first we failed to take a wicket until the 28th over and after that took eight!

Dayna Cox, Hannah Armstrong and Georgia Weatherspoon took two apiece to hold the top side to 218. We lost early wickets to be 4/49 in the 23rd over.  Good partnerships between Georgia Weatherspoon (27) and Kylie Rattray (54) 66, Jess O’Reilly (50 no) and Georgia (30) and 23 between Jess and Hannah took us to 199 off our 50 overs.

Kylie continued her good form of recent weeks with her third 50 since for 2012.

Kylie PB in As loss - Bs safe in second

Kylie Rattray continued her good form of recent weeks with a usual hard hitting 75 with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Kylie has been invited to be an “add on” player for the state team and will play in the City v Country game at Adelaide Oval Wednesday evening.

We put Port in taking an early wicket (1/32) but they had a series of significant partnerships (60, 21, 43, 50 and 40) to achieve 282.  State wicket keeper Alicia Dean scored 78.  Tahlia McGrath continued her good form with the ball taking 3/41.

We lost early wickets to be 5/18 in the 9th.  Kamani (30) and Kylie (75) started the revival with a 57 run   partnership to have us six runs behind Port at the 25 over mark (5/110 to 3/116) and five runs behind at the 30 over mark (5/136 to 3/141) but the loss of two wickets in the 30 to 35 over spell put us behind the required rate.

Kayla McGrath scored her PB at A grade level with 22 off 63 balls – batting for just on an hour.  The 70 run partnership for the seventh wicket was the best for the A grade in four seasons. (and the best for the Women’s teams in all grade for the seventh wicket.)

Rachael Greenshields and Jess O’Reilly put on 45 for the ninth wicket to bat us into the 46th over taking us to 197.

The Bs received a very late forfeit from Port (10.30pm Saturday night.)  This gives us second spot with a semifinal against either West Torrens, Sturt or Northern TTG on Sunday 25th.

The C grade finished their Supa six smash season with a game on Adelaide Oval which was a great thrill for all of us – including the umpires.

Thanks to Marg Jude for her work with this team and players Nikki Moyle, Amy White, Tianna Muirhead, Serena Ongley, Judy Moyle and the Faulkner girls who played in this team over the last six weeks.

BRIDESON BLITZES BROWNS - Bs in the finals

Courtney Brideson produced career best figures of 6/0 and 3/3 to spearhead the Bs outright win over Kensington.
Courtney bowled with pace and accuracy to the Browns 7/12 after nine overs.  The quick dismissals meant we could control the game. We passed their score in the second over and proceeded to score quickly to give ourselves over two hours to dismiss them again.  They scored 14.

We batted for 21 overs to make 126 with Nuggett making 34, Linda Shaw 20 and Nicole Baker 18.  Of the first eight batters five were retired.
We dismissed them for 27 batting a second time.

The 29 point game ensures the Bs will play finals.  This has been a huge effort for Marg Hay’s team as they won only one game in the first half of the season.
The As were set 254 by Sturt.  Donna Clark earned her best figures for the season with 4/31. Rachael (6) and Tahlia (44) gave us a good start with 31 – but the next best partnership was 29 for the last wicket between Hannah Armstrong (16 – her PB in A Grade) and Kayla McGrath (5).

Kylie Rattray’s big day out.

Kylie had scored her highest score in a school game for Woodcroft College last Monday.  Her 156 no was scored off 44 balls with 13 fours and 14 sixes.  She was playing against Adelaide High who were the 2011 champions in the Open Girls Competition.

This week the As play Port at Helen Black on Saturday, the Bs play Port at Christies on Sunday.  The C grade girls have a game at Adelaide Oval at 9 am Sunday morning.
